NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

The project consists of a series of 4 exhibition that marked the first years of MAXXI Architettura in Rome (2011-15). The aim was to challenge designers to bring their “creative” tools to deal with  the crisis of our time. Alltogheter, RE-CYCLE. Strategies for Architecture, City and Planet, ENERGY. Oil and Post-oil Architecture and Grids, ERASMUS EFFECT and FOOD Dal cucchiaio al mondo succeeded in defining  both a founding part of the museum’s identity and its field of investigation.

Brownfield in Saint-Denis is being transformed into a new sustainable residential area that offers a home for more than 1,000 inhabitants, facilities for education, culture and civic amenities. Further revitalization of industrial heritage and city park. We create a city of short distances, which is designed for pedestrians. We target the use of natural and recycled materials and energy self-sufficiency thanks to the smart grid. The area functions as fan village during the Summer Olympic 2024.

Designers and researchers, the founders of hors-studio, are conducting R&D work through design, on the valorization of waste. The transformation of these "waste resources" is achieved through the mastery of artisanal techniques combined with new technologies.hors-studio accompanies clients in a transversal way in the fields of design. It is within their laboratory workshop that they provides research in new material with recycled, crushed scraps, prototyping and micro-fabrication.

The towns are living networks of peoples, materials and processes. SUPERLOCAL aim is to empower citizens to actively build their world. We want to build stronger ties between the material world and the living communities. We promote a new, local supply chain because the closer the better, both for the people and the environment. Acknowledging the power of networks as new generators of economic and social value, we believe that understanding the production encourages a more sustainable evolution.

Questioning the comprehension of the place we call home, HOME is a transdisciplinary project investigating climate change’s causes, effects, and solutions for sustainable future development. The project proposes a solar-powered LED lamp designed for everyday use, to introduce solar technology in the domestic routine of contemporary dwellings, raising awareness and fostering the future use of clean sources to cut emissions endangering human life on our home planet, the Earth.

The Treetop Walk of Serralves Park, in Porto, offers an innovative way to enjoy this unique natural heritage, promoting awareness of nature conservation, developing educational programmes and scientific research – in particular, related to the carbon cycle and climate change – and hosting artistic events. It is a beautiful example of sustainable contemporary architecture!

APROP is an affordable, sustainable, fast and high-quality housing programme providing evicted households with emergency accommodation in their own neighbourhood. A lightweight, dry, modular and reversible construction system using reused shipping containers has been specially conceived to achieve high rates of energy efficiency and excellent architectural standards. The first APROP is already in operation in Ciutat Vella, Barcelona while two other buildings are currently under construction.

“Ne pleure pas ils te guideront dans le noir” is a journey into the heart of a cocoon matrix where, here, in the shadows, under cover, in the cyclical process of life and death, beings grow. Not animal, vegetable, or human, they constitute a space of metamorphosis where the spectator is invited to disappear into it. It’s an installation and art event project in two stages: the public can have the poetic and sensitive experience of the work, before sharing and exchanging over a meal.

A polluted plot in Amsterdam was transformed into an urban oasis through a community-driven development. Completed in June of 2014, De Ceuvel is a city playground for innovation, experimentation and creativity that aims to make sustainability tangible, accessible and fun.
