A border, a space, an area, a park. A green lung in the city of Nicosia against scorching Cyprus summers, and a pace of historical and cultural reappropriation for the whole island. A new space for people to mix, gather and integrate, in a diverse context and in a secure area. A biosphere for animal and human interaction in the core of the consolidated city of Nicosia, a walk between architectural and historical heritage aiming at reconnection and inclusivity for Cypriots, tourists and curious.

This project critically engages Porto di Mare, an urban border of Milan, characterized by phenomena of social and environmental fragility, e.g. social segregation, disused infrastructure, unauthorized buildings, and soil pollution. In this scenario, emerges the circular economy concept, a sustainable design instrument, with a focus on how architecture can answer climate change issues and develop a sustainable circular and social approach to rethink the fragile areas within the urban scenario.

REVIES is a four part dinner story about how we people use our materials, resources and stuff. It shows our status quo and it questions what is valuable to us. It makes us reflect on our future attitude towards heritage, recycling, nature and life. It initiates the conversation between you and me in an attempt to start moving people towards an open-ended future.

We propose sustainable modular outdoor workspaces that respect the covid-19 security measures. Its use is not considered as a seasonal event while the pandemic is ending, but rather it is intended to work in conjunction with other projects on an urban scale such as the Barcelona superilles project, in order to create a more functional and diverse public space. Apart, these modules can also be implemented everywhere.

This is a “coming of age” movie and it presents us with two main characters - Tomé and Helena – who are going through difficult stages in their life and will try to overcome these adversities. The arrival of Helena in Elefsina marks the beginning of a journey of introspection, confrontation and learning from their mistakes. Both friends have different views on life and are under pressure which makes them clash. However, they never lose their mutual admiration and the aim to help each other.

Fluke is a student project that asks the question: what if there were more fun, inclusive ,and playful ways to participate within the building of our cities? By incorporating a playful participatory placemaking process, we test out novel approaches to co-creation of public space in practice using more playful tactics. To us, the days of sitting in long and boring urban planning meetings by municipalities must change if our communities are to because we imagine a world where work can be play!

Cambio, from the medieval Latin cambium, ‘change, exchange’, is an investigation conducted by Formafantasma into the governance of the timber industry. This extensive research translated into a multidisciplinary exhibition composed of objects, videos, interviews, installations, a catalogue, a website and an Instagram podcast. Cambio highlights the crucial role that design can play in our environment. It was commissioned and exhibited by both the Serpentine-Gallery and the Centro-Pecci.

The project presented aims to make the Naples waterfront a safe and efficient promenade between city and sea, enable to face up to climate risks through the pedestrianisation of a good part of it (without, however, significantly hindering vehicular transit given that a special carriageway is foreseen for any critical issues) and the introduction of a series of innovative solutions for the recovery, treatment and re-use of rainwater, as part of the sustainable management of urban drainage.

A different mindset to urban development: that’s what makes De Nieuwe Stad (‘the new city’) a game-changer. The project proves that public programs can be safely placed into the hands of the private sector. Not shying away from complex issues and taking a tabula scripta (building upon the existing)  instead of a tabula rasa (starting afresh) approach. While many urban professionals try to avoid restrictive conditions and complexities, Schipper Bosch moves forward by incorporating them.
