By rewarding and putting real-life examples and young talents' great ideas into the limelight, the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Prizes aim to demonstrate that sustainability promoted by the European Green Deal can be inclusive and bring beauty and high-quality experiences for people's everyday lives and in local communities across Europe. It helps bring the NEB closer to citizens and inspire more people to start their own projects.
Applicants from all nationalities are welcome to apply as long as their projects, concepts or ideas are implemented either in the EU, the Western Balkans or Ukraine.
For Strand A, all the individual(s) or the organisation(s) (such as city or region, funder, organiser) who is/are entitled to represent the project can apply for Strand A. For Strand B, the individual(s) or the organisation(s) who are the author(s) of the concept as long as they are 30 years old or younger on the final day of call for applications (including all representatives of the organisation involved in the creation of the given concept).
EU and non-EU applicants are welcome to apply but their projects or concepts/ideas must be implemented either in the EU, the Western Balkans or Ukraine.
For the NEB Affordable Housing prizes, only applicants submitting projects located in an EU Member State are eligible to apply.
Both existing projects and new ideas implemented in the EU, Western Balkans or Ukraine can be submitted as long as they are in line with the descriptions of the categories and strands.
Prizes will be awarded in four categories which are based on the thematic axes of transformation that guide the delivery of the New European Bauhaus.
Reconnecting with nature
We will be looking at inspirational examples of beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects that bring individuals and communities closer to nature, that contribute to regenerate natural ecosystems and prevent loss of biodiversity or invite them to reconsider their relationship with nature in a life-centred perspective, as an alternative to the human-centred one.
Regaining a sense of belonging
We will be looking at inspirational examples of beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects that contribute to bringing a sense of belonging, a “spirit” or “meaning” of places, communities or products and that celebrate diversity.
Prioritising the places and people that need it the most
We will be looking at inspirational examples of beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects that contribute to addressing the needs of territories, communities and individuals that need particular and urgent attention because of specific economic, social, or physical characteristics.
- Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life-cycle thinking
We will be looking at inspirational examples of beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects that contribute to the transformation of the industrial ecosystems towards more sustainable practices in a spirit of circularity, considering relevant social aspects.
Applications for the New European Bauhaus Prizes should be submitted through the dedicated platform. The completed projects (Strand A) or concepts (Strand B), should be described in detail in the relevant application form.
The application form should detail how the project or concept represents the three New European Bauhaus values. It should also include elements reflecting the eligibility and award criteria which differ slightly for each strand. Please see the Applicants Guide for more information about the strands.
The application period will start on 14/01/2025 and end on 21/02/2025.
Only applications that are submitted by the official deadline will be considered by the Evaluation Committee.
Individuals and organisations can apply again with the same project provided that they haven’t won any New European Bauhaus Prize or any monetary award funded by the EU in the past.
Each application can be submitted under one category and in one strand only. An applicant can submit multiple applications if they are related to different projects or concepts.
Applications can be modified and updated while they are in draft state until 21/02/2025.
STRAND A rewards projects that are fully completed at the time of application. Applicants must be able to show at least one specific case where the projects have been implemented or applied. Furthermore, the applicants need to be able to provide the relevant documentation showing outputs, evaluation, certifications, and project reports. The maturity of the project should reflect these criteria.
Each winner will receive a monetary prize:
- EUR 30,000 for winners of the New European Bauhaus Champions (Strand A)
- EUR 15,000 for winners of the New European Bauhaus Rising Stars (Strand B)
- EUR 30,000 for the winners of the ‘NEB Affordable Housing’
Each runner-up will receive a monetary prize:
- EUR 20,000 for runners-up of the New European Bauhaus Champions (Strand A)
- EUR 10,000 for runners-up of the New European Bauhaus Rising Stars (Strand B)
Each prize winner will also benefit from a communications package provided by the Commission, which includes promotion on the Commission's social media and websites, production of a short video and support in promoting the projects.
The selection process is divided as follows:
- Eligibility check: the Evaluation Committee composed of Commission representatives will check that the entries are eligible (the Committee will not evaluate the applications themselves).
- Quality assessment: external experts selected by the Commission through a ‘'Call for Expression of Interest' will evaluate the applications and attribute points based on the award criteria in the Applicants Guide. This call is open until 14/02/2025.
- Public voting: finalists' applications selected in the previous selection process will be published on the website for public voting where one winner in each strand will be selected.
- Jury assessment: the finalists' applications will be assessed by a final jury of experts composed of nine members.
- Establishment of the results: the Commission will award the prizes to the selected winners based on the recommendations of the Evaluation Committee.
