How can a strategic collaboration model change a socially vulnerable housing area? The Aalborg Model focus on large scale renovations based on partnerships and cooperation. The model is focusing on environmental and social sustainability, and it resolves technical and social issues connected to both construction and housing. The project has realized major changes for the benefit of a large residential area in Denmark, and a lot of knowledge has been generated based on thourough research.

A datapoietic sculpture of a digital plant unites the citizens of Palermo around the health of the Oreto river. Collaboratively fed by citizens, the plant informs us about the health of the water – creating unexpected alliances among humans, artificial intelligence, data and computation to make us more sensitive. 

In the middle of pandemics a next step of citizen science is born, enabled by art and innovation: to self-organize, share, connect and take care of the environment in new poetic ways.

CAN GUINEU is an ephemeral architecture project to enable sustainable community building through arts and culture. Through this temporary intervention, a relevant local heritage site is made accessible to citizens for the first time since its public acquisition. Supporting artistic events, cultural performances and social gatherings, CAN GUINEU becomes a local hub to bring communities together, fostering social cohesion and prompting a sense of belonging and of shared ownership of the place.

Aspropyrgos is a town where a large number of Pontic Greeks settled coming from the shores of the Black Sea. The "Lyra" cultural centre is a small hub for the local community where the ancient art of Pontic theatre can be taught while becoming a hub for the local community.

The action "District X: Plural Looks on museums" was born as a challenge, with the aim of involving the LGBTQI+ community and the Porta Venezia district in the creation of new meanings and new readings on the theme of gender identity and sexual orientation thanks to civically conscious actions. The action emerged as a pilot project to test innovative replicable and sustainable engagement methodologies.

A city-wide open-air museum for the discovery of routes that venture beyond the city centre and the usual art destinations, featuring pieces of street art in augmented reality to explore the city through different neighbourhoods. After Milan and Turin in Italy and Waterford in Ireland, MAUA wants to reach other european countries for a sustainable, beautiful and inclusive way of disseminate art.

New life for a Soviet sanatorium. The Edinburgh Apartments & Lofts illustrate the value of creative thinking in the context of sustainability, among others. A neglected building has become family friendly housing, which respects the local vernacular while also addressing contemporary needs. This isn’t a formal transformation to improve a building’s energy efficiency, but value-adding adaptive reuse. The apartment complex fosters community spirit and encourages appreciation for nature.

The University of Siegen moves from its ivory tower to the city center and brings some heterogenous vitalization.

The city’s new center of gravity is a department store building, that from now on is also a multifunctional lecture center. This saves resources, revives the city center and fosters circularity.

A small major city that has been shaped by its industry is reinventing itself. That is only possible because the municipality and university cooperate tightly in order to shape a new future
