NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

The project aims at scaleable retrofit model for over 12 000 roofs in Bulgaria by repurposing a roof into an urban community farm. Recreating the abandoned roof will showcase the value of bringing together elderly, youth and children through farming - tackling loneliness and transfering knowledge of forgotten agro-practices. Atune with the goal of modern Bauhaus, the project counts on the science of gardening, re-use and re-purposing as the base for esthetic and sustainable urban revolution.

The most sustainable building is the one that never has to be built, therefore our vision is to create a sustainable urban development where peoples need for premises should be met without adding any new sqm. We want to make co-use & sharing of space as an attractive form of renting as the conventional way, in order to increase the resource effective use of existing buildings & premises. We cannot continue to construct the destruction of our planet, we need to start sharing our space.

The world is not accessible.Urban planning does not have techniques or planning that support the inclusive and sustainable design of cities. Because of it, I created a new way for urban planning: an accesibility plan applied to regenerate the urban center of Ourense. Analyze streets and propose more accessible and green spaces but including neuroarchitectural factors to improving people's well´being.So, I created an architectural technique with neurological and sustainable parameters

Feminist Futures is an ongoing participatory art project that initiates, creates and archives science fiction stories of a feminist internet. In workshops, talks and exhibitions, imagination and narration serve as tools for public engagement in technological processes. Feminist Futures maps current issues on the internet and re-imagines them through stories, comics or poems. Fiction, in this context, becomes a cultural communal practice that enables political action.

The KAA Architecture Atelier offers advice, planning and construction supervision for ecologically sustainable new building projects as well as renovations. The objects designed by KAA are planned in an environmental friendly manner. The properties are rated higher and customer satisfaction increases. High Quality Ecological Architecture - Be part of it. It was influenced by the straw-littered streets of Bairro Alto (in Portugal), the project aims to create an environmentally friendly mindset addressing a seemingly trivial, yet troubling phenomenon. The idea is to collect used straws from consumers at dedicated locations and institutions and let designers create new objects, installations and textures from them. The design then returns to the location, offering consumers a chance to see their not-so-useless waste transform into use again. 

‘Above/ /Below’ is a project which aims to revive ecologically rich areas within the city of Gothenburg by creating unique yet integrally linked space above and below the river’s surface. ‘Above’ we focus on public space, pedagogy and protection to connect Gothenburgers to their local ecosystem. ‘Below’ we’re creating 3D printed clay habitat modules to increase biodiversity, with a focus on blue mussels (mytilus edulis) - a species which filters water and creates habitats for other species.

Natural Office Community promotes coworking spaces made from natural materials for people, who want to work in sustainable environment. The spaces would be build in rural landscape outside city in order to bring the people together with nature and show them the potential of natural resources. The office is then used as a template for future construction projects in Saxony. During planning phase are considered only sustainable materials and the
use of renewable energies.

Tall apartments with increased number of flats host lots of renters, who don’t know who they live with. They become unfamilier with the concept of sharing. Accordingly, units of each module in this lateral housing design are arranged in a way that the provided distance will not disturb the neighbours; in fact it will help them to unite, notice each other and connect. The adaptable, easy-constructed modular system will be the possible solution to replace this feeling of strangeness with sympathy.
