NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

The Land Land of Zgorzelec 2021-2021 is a series of ecological artistic plein-airs that recall a similar Polish tradition from the 1960s/70s. The aim of the project is to bring together different actors: artists, designers, environmental NGOs, ecological activists, scientists, academics and the local community, to work collectively on a vision for a just transition and a better, green future for Opolno-Zdrój - a former spa town located on the edge of the infamous Turów coal mine and powerplant.

Near the village of Nebelin, the A14 federal motorway is to cut through the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve in Brandenburg. What is planned is not sufficient to protect the sensitive area. Based on the concerns of the local people the ‘Zentrum für Peripherie’ has taken the situation as an opportunity to initiate an idea development process with artistic means. Working with the potential of the region, preserving its special beauty, and in this way to initiate a forward-looking process.

Roma Smistamento is a polyfunctional hub for cultural production, education and inclusiveness. Once former railway offices in the Rome periphery, now regenerated by an under-30 team of professionals in the Cultural and Creative Industry wishing to increase their positive territorial impact. We believe in the power of creativity and transdisciplinarity for co-creating socio-technical transitions in the current city-making paradigm.

The world is changing, and we have to change with it. We must respect our planet and a way to do so is by creating sustainable energy. Solar light is the most powerful source of energy we can ask for, a source that we already use through solar panels, but it is not enough. We need to extend our possibilities to acquire renewable energy and what could be better than photovoltaic paint? A thin layer of light and aesthetic varnish, capable of producing energy wherever you apply it.

Contemporary design in a timeless edition dressed in innovative plant materials like leather from pineapple leaves, grapes or cactus - you will find it all in our collections. All our collections are handmade in Poland according to the principles of sustainable production. Our parents, who are experienced shoe makers, are the heart of our brand. We also support local craftsmen from whom we source our components. We set a new good trend - vegan fashion.

The predatory society that we known, is collapsing, exhausted after hundreds of sterile dissensions of power, struggles and unchecked profit from natural resources.

A circular initiative of urban renaturalisation involving artists, scientists, architects, designers, residents of Tres Barrios-Amate and youngs from the local association A.E.S. Candelaria. An exploration of the resources and species of the neighbourhood, to imagine new relationships of sustainable prosperity through an integral process that takes the form of a vertical garden, a perfume that distils plants from the neighbourhood and a sound composition that celebrates new alliances.

C’alma is a place to empower change, through interdisciplinary education, where art, nature, yoga and meditation serve as tools for transformation. Naturally Dramatic is an interdisciplinary project between the Biobased Colloids and Materials (BiCMat) research group at Aalto University in Finland and textile designer Urs Dierker. It showcased solutions for sustainable costume design with a focus on biomaterials. The project is part of the Circular Costume Design project, founded by Dierker to foster systemic change within the entertainment industry. Naturally Dramatic was part of the 2020 Helsinki Design Week.
