A community-driven urban design approach to revitalize post-industrial neighbourhoods in the 21st century. The project aims to give municipalities, designers and residents a roadmap for reconnecting and reintegrating degraded industrial districts without triggering unhealthy gentrification. With a focus on the transition to sustainable transit, incremental beautification, and community engagement, our methodology aims to help breathe life back into neglected local communities from the bottom up.
Project Weeks is a practice-based art educational programme spanning over two consecutive weeks towards the end of the second semester, in the framework of graduate studies in Nature Art. Just like in a live situation (commission, application or exhibition), students have to build during these two weeks the plans they have developed in the preceding period. To help students, course tasks are coordinated and a set of varied and dedicated extra-curricular activities are organised by the initiator.
Can wood be both a sustainable and an esthetic material? Con-Truss project tries to qualify this material as a hoilistic process, starting from his regional production in Berlin region to its use as piece of furniture in housing project. The block consists of solid wooden structural elements stuck orthogonally and a softer " layer", the furniture, inspired by the Renaissance painting type " Saint Jerome in his Study". Therefore, Con-truss is defined by the subtle con-trast of this two layers.
On the banks of the Cher, a French river, the legacy of modernity separates; humans and non-humans ignore each other, sometimes even clash. Under the threat of flooding, the dam has pushed the river away, making us almost forget its presence.
Challenge? Accepting the fluctuations of the river to reconnect the living. To allow "common ground", a recognition between each of the forces involved: the cycles of living, human activities and the river itself in its variability, high and low water.
Impluvium is a planted-filter that provide drinking water from collected rainwater, to the inhabitants of a semi-urbain community. Thus, the concept can be produced and fonction without electricity and all the resources will be local. The device, after collective handicraft manufacture, take places in life center to bring inhabitants together and rhythm life around natural elements. So this bio-design system will be an ecosystem object, that we take care of because we feel symbiosis with.
The transformative potential of Barreiro's landscape lies in the permanence and continuity of the river and its margins, structured from natural and human dynamics currently deactivated. "The Other Margin" proposes a singular and dual system that reinterprets Coina’s estuary marginal spaces role in a perspective of reactivation and self-sustainability, from a set of complementary typologies, equating mutual synergies and triggering a Tide Mill System and its bays to reconvert and reintegrate.
This concept combines nature-inspired ideas towards an energy-efficient, circular and reversible built environment, while improving life quality and reducing costs for less privileged families. Therefore, a circular facade was developed by using the respiratory system of crickets as design inspiration and reusing waste materials from demolition. The idea consists of wood fibre insulation and an open-joint ventilated facade with natural air ventilation, covering both summer and winter scenarios.
