NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

Fab Lab Barcelona designed and implemented the Circular Maker Academy; an innovative and immersive training programme that provides people with the skills and guidance to successfully scope, plan, establish and manage their Circular Makerspaces as core to local urban and social development activities. The programme is designed around a local capacity building approach to ‘train the trainer’, a method that sees individuals become ‘community champions’ of making meaningful local change.

This is an aluminium anodized high quality ballpoint pen. The movement is inspired in a sketch described by Leonardo Da Vinci during the 15th century in some manuscript. The design is totally made by artisan in cnc machining one by one and there is no complex mechanisms inside. The user only need to turn the side tube and the ink refill go up and down by a mechanic and simple movement.

Gare Maritime, the contemporary interpretation of the impressive former freight station dating from 1907, with its innovative work and shop concept, makes it a unique project. The integrity of the century-old industrial building has been preserved in the redevelopment process, while its function has been modernized, creating a lively urban hub with workspaces, events & exhibitions spaces, public amenities, thematic retail stores as well as a food hall, with outstanding sustainability in mind

In order to democratize participation in public space we rethink the public toilet. In our Utopee the toilet is sufficiently available and free of charge in public spaces. It is a place to satisfy your everyday needs on the road in the city. The toilet becomes a place to rest, drink water, wash hands and other functions can be added, such as bicycle pumps or parcel stations. By adding other functions and through an aesthetic design the toilet has a social and ecological impact on the city life.

überkochen e.V. brings cooking into the classroom: it broaches the issue of sustainabale and healthy nutrition to schools, promotes social capabilities of students and creates space for new types of learning. Cooking can become part of math, German, English, geography and more. The idea of überkochen e.V. is to provide a holistic product service concept for better food and nutrition at schools combined with an approach to integrate new ways of learning.

This is often approached from a merely pragmatic perspective, focusing on functional aspects and proposing solutions from furniture. Sustainability, aesthetics and the human factor are rarely combined. At the Universidad de Navarra we have created a successful model to transform our campus. Vieillir Vivant is a social innovation programme dedicated to ageing. It gathers a collective of 20 artists, designers, sociologists and architects, plus a broad network of care workers, publics agents, elected representatives and citizens. The programme nowadays runs action-research residencies in 6 territories in France, to compare different contexts for ageing, highlight local challenges, and leverage on national decision making. Vieillir Vivant is driven by the non profit org. Carton Plein.
