NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

The project defines the interdisciplinary art teaching at the Chair of Media Environments at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Three exhibitions, several workshops, and a publication were inspired by interactions between artistic, technical, scientific, living, and nonliving. While the exhibitions featured the artworks of the students and their educators, workshops invited lay people to join experimentation, the contributions to the publication discuss the context raised by the artworks.

'Katzenhaus' Project is an interdisciplinary high school plan that proposes two objectives:

Sensitize the local population about the problem of feline colonies

Create, design, build and install micro houses for stray cats. A place where cats can eat, drink, stay the night, or just take refuge from bad weather

Liofyllo, in harmony with the principles of the circular economy, creates a novel eco-friendly material from the untapped olive leaves. Its mission is to manage this biomass that is discarded during the production process of olive oil and replace materials which are not environmentally friendly. This new material is used for a wide variety of constructions, artworks, products and objects.

What if microorganisms could further support mankind in circular upcycling processes?

Microbial fermentation practices are conducted for millennia to transform organic matter into enriched foods. Indeed, by collaborating with yeasts and bacteria, local agro waste can be turned into valuable prebiotic foods and compostable materials based on fibers. SCOBY, an acetic mother used for Kombucha drink, can help us turning by-products into co-products while enhancing (g)local resources and values

Verbiest is the research to promote an architecture that questions the project and its process. A building that allows itself to adapt to the challenges of a society that is constantly moving: in what situation can we talk about
economy or circular design? And above all, how can we overcome the label “circular” from its often too frequent shortcut to legitimize conspicuous consumption ?

Born as a thesis project, Left(L)over is a true Call to Action for a more sustainable fashion. It is a system that is configured in a take-care service operating on pre-loved clothing through craftivism operations; It uses re-generative mending and other craft-based approaches to implement the process of care on the garments. Left(L)overs incorporates both manual techniques and machine work to recover the leftovers of used garments taking into account the emotional connection with clothing.

Memory of water - a pan-European story of culture, aesthetics, and sustainable green planning for heritage urban futures. A collaboration led by artists: crossing borders; creating connections beyond borders with universal concerns, possibilities and challenges; finding creative answers that span sectors and themes for our cities’ regeneration. Mobilising citizens, activists, community organizations, policy makers, we built  solid ground for future cooperation to explore the themes further.

Milano Mediterranea is the a participatory art model that speaks the languages of South Europe Mediterranean in Milano, involving the citizens of a popular multicultural neighborhood of Milano called Giambellino in the artistic production and artistic programming. 

Tubo amb Corbes is the bike parking designed for the modern healthy lifestyle of today's cities, embracing the use of carbon-neutral transports by offering anchoring space to up to two bicycles and one electric scooter.

With its dynamic and playful shape, it provides not only parking when used, but a piece of modern design on the street when not in use. Its shape is specially designed to be able to securely fasten almost any kind of bicycle, from folding to children's, by two anchor points.

"Fusta en ones" is an urban bench planned as a place where all kinds of people can rest and socialize, as well as an urban element that gives natural and peaceful energy with its unique appearance.
