NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

MCC believe that supporting highly talented young people is a fundamental public interest. To fulfill this mission, we organize our work on the basis of unified professional principles. The Hungarian Parliament acknowledged the effectiveness of our endeavor when MCC has been chosen as the future base for talent nurturing. Thanks to the project we launched in the fall of 2020, MCC will become the most important young talent nurturing institution in the Carpathian Basin. 

Paper Pavilion is designed with upcycled wasted papers to develop the new sustainable design method of “Appropriate Durability”: not to set up excessive architectural strength to a short-life pavilion but rather construct with appropriate materials that only last for the duration of an event. This new methodology opens up the potential of the materials that were not considered as building materials in traditional architectures which potentially creates more sustainable future cities. 

What if small country towns could be physically connected? How could a robust network of air routes influence their economic growth? We deeply believe in a new vision of city, based on connection, sustainability and technology. We also believe that as skyscrapers are made by an assembly of bricks, also a new kind of city can be generated by the connection of small towns. To accomplish our mission, we are going to design a cheap and sustainable electrical Vertical Take Off and Landing system.

While all the theaters in the world are locked down, a stone theater is born immersed in Nature, amongst the Italian Alps, a powerful challenge that the Tones on the Stones Foundation brings on, leveraging on the strength of its know-how in the design and production of events in quarries. Thanks to an environmental requalification, an exhausted quarry becomes a sustainable theater, destined to host innovative site-specific productions, environmental education projects and activities for Welfare.

Irota EcoLodge is a unique sustainable holiday resort in Northern Hungary. It is the first, and so far the only carbon-neutral accommodation in Hungary and in the wider region. The two Dutch owners show that sustainability through circularity and net-zero carbon can go hand in hand with luxury tourism. Even though the resort is located in one of the poorest regions of the EU, this is a commercially viable project that did not need require any subsidies to make it happen.

Divide et includa

Open plan offices long for separation. This eternal truth brought our room divider system to life. In contrast to separation OBELO is solving a wide range of spatial situations related to activity-based work. We bring people together: the reconfigurable elements create informal meeting rooms, ad-hoc collaborative zones, break-out areas flexibly and cost-effectively. The system can easily be installed like a furniture; customised both in size and functionality.

Kalnciema Quarter in Riga is a bright and vibrant urban quarter of renovated 18th-19th century wooden buildings, engaged with local markets, cultural and creative economy activities. Kalnciema Quarter has been open to the public for more than 10 years and hosts a series of cultural and social events – local food and crafts markets, concerts, festivals, workshops, lectures, performances, cinema, exhibitions, etc.

Young people moving out of small towns? Car-dependent old people isolated in the periphery? Expensive yet disused historic buildings? Deserted unattractive streets? Welcome to the Donut-effect. With nonconform, a participatory planning and design practice, the town of Trofaiach fought this with an inclusive method of dialogue and co-creation. Now most abandoned buildings are back in use, streets attract visitors of all ages, on public transport and leaving cars behind. The centre lives again.

Bamboopod® is the first and only system combining the natural beauty of bamboo with the cutting-edge technology of tensile architecture, fully prefabricated and buildable easily by a pair.
