NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

In each module, we aim to design adaptable and portable vital solutions to specific regions for the needs of people. We intend to provide these modules by producing a digital platform for everyone to access and placing them as key plans at certain points of the city. Firstly, a module suitable for everyone, not individuals, will be produced. Afterward, these modules will be placed in suitable places of the city with the support of the interested institution.

Organo is a diffused community garden in Baggio (neighborhood in west Milan, Italy). Its name comes from the legend of Baggio's organ, that wasn't a real organ but a painting on the wall of the church. Organo enhances the proactivity of its inhabitants, providing them a place to gather. Each structure is designed to be easily set up and decorated as a unique piece, and all modules combined create a giant majolica, that is the way in which the historical center of Baggio communicates stories.

Grandpa’s Orchard means more than a place down the mountain, this name stands for history, tradition, culture, memories, prosperity and the smell of blossomed trees.

Our wish was not just to recreate the old school context, but to perpetuate a way of living in an environment dominated by nature where the people form a community that completes it.

cHOMgenius is an innovative construction system for off-grid housing, made off-site, disassemblabile, customizable, flexible, which reuses dismissed shipping containers as a structural system. It employs multifunctional and industrialized components, with environmental certification, dry technologies and earthquake-proof. Thanks to the re-use and the disassembly, it belongs to circular economy.

The first building was completed at the end of 2020, showing the validity and feasibility of the idea

"The Style Outlets" is located in Viladecans, on the urban edge between the city and the Baix Llobregat agrarian park. It has been designed incorporating ecological and sustainable systems and materials, with the aim of carrying out a work respectful with the environment. The intervention is framed within the new paradigm of smart sustainability to improve the performance of the rainwater management system: recharging groundwater levels and fighting heat island.

Innovative technology and design take us back to nature with state of the
art passive water management systems that make beautiful plant filled
streets. Cristobal de Moura Green Street brings it all together with inclusive,
participatory city planning.
This pioneering project uses the power of vegetation to manage rainwater
where it falls, reducing pollution and water waste, with health benefits for
people and the environment. It serves as a model and inspiration for future
interventions.

Beehive mission is to provide high-tech solutions to improve sustainability and safety in existing constructions while financing and collaborating with research for a continued enhancement of the built stock. Beehive offers modular wireless sensing networks that eliminate the problem of cables while caring about the aesthetics and affordability of the products, thus offering a solution that is adoptable by a wide range of clients, from private house-owners to managers of public infrastructures.

Arcus aims to design a framework for community-building, inclusivity, sharing, learning and creation by and for wide range of residents. It becomes a hub for the engagement of different aspect of culture, both tangible and intangible. It mainly promotes visual and audial communication of cultures. It fosters young people of different skills and backgrounds, who will play a leading role in the future neighborhood area through a collaborative structure that converge different generations.

With the conversion of the Wilhelmspalais into a city museum, a new place of encounter and exchange was created, which is entirely dedicated to urban culture. Above all, future questions, architecture and sustainability play a major role. The refurbished building itself serves as the best example for this. Without giving in to the desire for a simple reconstruction, the original conceptual thought was returned to the building and reestablishes the historical urbanistic idea.

KARTING is an eco-concept for creative startups based on the rehabilitation of a vacant indoor kart-racing track. Two guiding principles led this temporary use project: high sustainability requirements and controlled exit prices. A “minimal design” concept was developed to achieve these objectives, allowing modular, affordable and below-market price office spaces for young artists and entrepreneurs. KARTING hosts around 40 creative startups and collectives each year.
