NEB Prizes 2022: All Applications

The research presents a multiscalar robotic construction system to automate on-site timber construction. Specifically, it presents the next step in the automation of on-site gluing through the introduction of a robotic clamping device to press timber elements directly in the final location. This system allows for a point-supported timber slab of unlimited dimensions, which opens up more design flexibility in the floor plan and extends the architectural design space of timber buildings.

The artist Radu Stefan creates a universe of superimposed layers and paper relief to give life to works that enchant the eye and create a magical effect characteristic of his 3D light&shadow  boxes.

The city, nature and architectural utopia are the subjects he most often tackles in this work. He regularly presents his work on the Belgian and international art scene and has twice received the PRIX DU PUBLIC for his work.

Orto della SME has been a requalification of an university’s open space through a co-planning process involving a vibrant university community, CSOs and NGOs, retired citizens, and the municipality of Turin. The project created an accessible and sustainable collective gardening site, enhancing academic citizenry and citizens’ sense of belongingness in connection with the urban nature, supporting the aesthetic requalification of the area and seeding circular and solidal economic circles

Erotic and Heretical

The material is 100% natural: it does not release any harmful products into the domestic environment and becomes a nutrient for the Nature if its use is finished.

Because is erotic the desire to exist in communion with Nature, leaving her a positive contribution. Because it is heretical in relation to traditional products, both in terms of ecological material and sustainable production.

Urban trees share the city with its citizens for years. They are aesthetically, psychologically and environmentally beneficial. Society invests money, space and time in them, but at the end of their life cycle, the wood from these trees is managed as worthless and ends up being wasted and even producing more costs without any social return.

The initiative proposes considering wood as a resource that can continue to contribute to society in a cross-cutting and multidisciplinary way

The program aims to transform grey, concrete areas at schools and kindergartens into green. The program is an element of climate change adaptation through the use of nature-based solutions that promote local rainwater management and increase biodiversity. Schools are encouraged not only to "unseal" concrete yards, but also to enrich their landscaping projects with elements of blue and green infrastructure, such as rain gardens, flower meadows, climbing plants, vegetable gardens or rain barrels.

‘Possible Patterns’ is a spatial intervention. It is comprised of modular elements that are made of rammed earth. They make up a large volume that emerges as a fragment of built space. ‘Possible Patterns’ originates from research into the standardization and customization of shapes, geometry and composition. Through the work’s modularity a multitude of configurations could be (re)built. 

With ReWork we wanted to further develop the circular economy as well as bring awareness to upcycling as a method of creating job opportunities for individuals furthest from employment market. By developing an operation called Återbruket we have found a way in which to approach sustainalbity on three fronts; environmentally, socially and economically. 

The aim of the project is to involve the population of the Avas district (about 1000 people) in various social actions and community programs.The implementation period was 24 months, by the Municipality of Miskolc and the „Dialóg Association”.  The task of the Avas Community Space is to provide a background for local integration and to become a new space for the community life of the local population.

Can a new place have the quality and charm of antiquity?

Tree Village is a relatively new place that invites and inspires guests from all over Latvia and abroad with its concept and philosophy. Although the school building was built very recently, its architecture harmonizes with the ancient landscape of the surroundings - St. Anna’s Church of Babīte and the old oaks. This story is about giving the second life to materials and about a quality living environment.
