NEB Prizes 2021: All Applications

Cabinetmaker and designer, my 8 years of workshop experience have helped me to balance aesthetics and feasibility to focus on people needs and their uses. I have designed an armchair that meets the hugging needs of autistic people. This prototype integrates an innovative mechanism in an aesthetic piece of furniture. OTO was co-designed with autistic people and medico-educational team. The chair has been designed for and by its users to create a product that is useful, usable and utilized.

Circo aéreo is an itinerary installation as also the product that explores the underused potential of empty urban spaces and their often inadequate and barren substitute functions. The object re-actives those underused locations by providing a stage for events, and a place to hang out, or rest. 

Additionally, the new intervention generates a sense of care and belonging to the space, hopefully leading to daily cleaning and improved security on the location.

The growing global urge to adapt to climate changes led our team in collaboration with studio Next Institute to provide an urban prototype for the problem. Designed for the city of Brno, the CITY CELL PROTOTYPE is able to collect various data concerning rainwater management and urban greenery in the city.
Featuring seating, a night illumination system, day shading, and wall greenery, the structure is thought as an item of urban furniture made to merge its functions with the public space.

Resized Plastic is an Augmented Reality (AR) application designed to inform users about the microplastics issue, allowing interaction with its digital content on multiple scales of magnitude through the narrative device of a magnifying lens. It has been designed to provide an accessible source of information, overcoming the barriers of time and space of traditional educational tools, and improve users’ attitude towards the environmental topic, bringing life to a playful interactive environment.

The regeneration of the former Pasta-Factory Castelli, Como, is a cooperative initiative integrating into the same renovated place:

• 20 families with their homes;
• a Social Cooperative engaged in assistance and culture;
• a Design Studio dealing with the reuse of built heritage;
• a Foundation providing housing for fragile people.

The initiative takes shape in a non-trivial place, with historical identity but a recent past of decay. Now it becomes the beacon of a possible large transformation.

The memorial park is commemorating the 13 fallen during an accidental explosion on July 11th, 2011, at Mari, Cyprus. Considering the historical, political, and social significance of the events, the project seeks to create a place of collective memory, generating vivid personal and shared experiences for visitors and passers-by. Custom computational tools and digital fabrication methods have been used to support the design and enable the interactive effects animating the proposal.

R50 – cohousing is a joint building venture project in Berlin-Kreuzberg. It was initiated by the architects during the course of a concept-based award procedure for building plots and implemented in close cooperation with the clients. The building proposal is founded on a clear urban design position, robust and precisely detailed architectural design, and both a collective and individual process of occupancy and planning.

The two temporary projects on the northern bank of the Main river were sustainable urban interventions in all respects (ecological, economic and social). They not only pave the path to an inner-city traffic turnaround, but also demonstrate how public space can be used in a community-oriented and participatory way so that it benefits the city's inhabitants. Due to the temporal overlap with the Corona pandemic, the projects have been all the more important for Frankfurt's urban population.
