Inspired by criteria of sustainability, inclusion and participation, Parco Archeo Natura is an open air museum in Fiavé, Northern Italy. Visitors can live an immersive experience, watching the original submerged prehistoric pile dwellings of the UNESCO site in the protected natural area, visiting the reconstruction of the pile-dwelling villages on a 1:1 scale, as close as possible to the reality of the excavation documentation, and deepening their knowledge at the Museum in the center of Fiavé.

The pilot-experience of the Dumbo Space, launched in Bologna in 2019, constitutes the temporary use project for part of the warehouses and open areas that compose the main freight yard of the city, which has been abandoned for decades. The project is considered particularly significant and strategic due to its unique size and complexity on the national scene, where the regeneration of the disused heritage, established as a "common good", becomes the trigger for the implementation planning.

Spatiotemporal database based on GIS technology which manages information related to space and time simultaneously. Simply put, these are digital maps, where historical events can be traced in their temporal dynamics and territorial reflection.

Through the development of a load-bearing prefabricated clay construction, the historic building material clay can be made sustainable. By adding organic aggregates, both the load-bearing and the heat-insulating properties of the prefabricated components can be optimized. In addition, the time-consuming production and long drying time is automated and transferred to a factory. The positive properties of clay, such as its regional availability or its good ecological footprint, are retained.

PDB is a non-profit project whose mission is to promote and internationalise design thinking and practice with a vast program of projects and events, such as exhibitions, workshops, performances, talks, etc., presented in spaces of the cities of Porto and Matosinhos.

The first edition, PDB’19: Post Millennium Tension, promoted by the two municipalities and organized by esad—idea, affirmed this research space as a home for culture, science, citizenship, and varied forms of creative innovation.

Dutch social housing company de Sleutels in Leiden is transforming 130 housing units of more than a century old into 139 sustainable, modern houses. A unique project combining social housing, heritage preservation and sustainability. The monumental parts of the structures are kept and restored, the remaining parts rebuilt. The new houses have a low carbon footprint. The project is done in cooperation with tenants, the municipality, heritage associations, a contractor and an energy supplier.

This project is about the reporposing of the ground floor of a 60’s two storey residence into a pediatric clinic located on Kozani, Greece. The architect’s commission included the whole building’s outdoor renovation (garden, facades, outdoor lighting design), the planning and transformation of the basement according the new use, the interior design of furnishings and the graphic design of the clinic’s visual identity. 

‘De Buurtcamping’ invites neighbours to share a short holiday together in the summer. Since 2013 our foundation helps residents to organise campsites in their own city parks. For months, local campsite managers, volunteers and local organisations make preparations to transform the park for three days into a small peaceful village in the middle of the big city. The campsite is a place for both special encounters and sustainable social connections in the neighbourhood.

Born for the drying of tabacco and synthesis of a landscape intended for work, the ancient factory called ‘Il Castello’ is recovered for new uses, opening up to the Community as a court of collective knowledge, theater of public-private synergies aimed at regenerating the land over which it dominates. Respect for environmental values has led the intervention to develop almost exclusively inside the building, reconfigured in order to restore its semantic identity in the contemporary dimension.

The project corresponds to the contemporary social,cultural and economic processes, characterizing our society, imposing new standards of relationships and development of our cities and urbanized areas.In order sustainable integrated development to be achieved in these areas, appropriate living environment is necessary to be developed, reflecting the dynamic character of these processes and responding adequately to their implementation and multiplication.
