This dismal site resulting from the careless demolition of a former convent in Vinaroz, beloved by local residents and a reserve for local memory has been transformed into a garden born from the archaeological remains, creatively upcycling the debris to evoke the historic memory of the building, as well as that of the orchards around it. The aim was to restore dignity to the site and transform it into a place for meeting, relaxation and amusement, recovering a living space for the community.

Conceived as an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary educational method, KYRT emerged in 2018 within the scope of ESAD's (https://esad.pt/) communication design degree. Since then, the curriculum of the 2nd semester of the 3rd year — consisting of 5 course units — has been replaced by a studio based model in which the 9 teachers and all students (local and Erasmus) embark on an ambitious final project dismantling the formal educational method.

A temporary entrance building for the saxony state exhibition created with a fully circular approach. Including the process of disassembly and the re-usage of all materials afterwards, the concept uses existing industrial goods and combines them into a building with an inclusive ramp system, to welcome visitors to the exhibition and lead them into the former assembly and production hall. Topics such production circles and recycling processes become legible as design-determining aesthetics.

Mapping Europe’s active and closed coal power plants as well as coal mines, reveals cities and regions, which will be strongly affected by structural and social change due to Europe’s goal to be carbon neutral in 2050. Overlaying this data with Europe’s renewable energy potentials reveals the possibility to introduce the production of either solar, geothermal or hydro energy into the city fabric in former coal cities.

L'Atelier Emmaüs is a young social enterprise (2017) belonging to the Emmaüs Movement and dedicated to fighting exclusion by introducing carpentry work.

The apprentice craftsmen are welcomed into an introductory course in craft skills for 30 days.

Designers and interior architects design the furniture and fixtures that are made in our workshop-school in Villeurbanne (Lyon) and then sold.

Whenever possible, the Emmaus workshop uses recycled wood.

Stories of Journey is a collection of wooden objects designed by Alice Del Balio and Federica Pierro with two African artisan produced by social enterprise “Terra di Tutti”. The project tells us about their migrant journey started in Africa. They crossed deserts, roads and eventually the sea, before being here today in Segromigno in Italy to tell us about it. 

The Urban Seeding workshop is conceived as a situational design and planning based on the interdisciplinary composition of groups and meant to regenerate urban areas applying the principles of the circular economy in heritage adaptive reuse. By onsite analysing deprived areas and highlighting heritage regeneration needs in line with social opportunities, the workshop generate low-cost implementation ideas (the seeds) easily replicable in an urban calendar, ranging from restoration to regreening.
