Boost for Small Municipalities: All applications

The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Center is housed in a former 13 407 sq. m. textile school. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s art was complex and had many dimensions beyond the typical studio practice – engineering, environmental, urbanism, business aspects. The Center evokes their projects, going beyond art enjoyment and promotion of young artists, researchers and tinkerers by being a space for collaborative knowledge production in the field of art, textiles, design, fashion and urban space.

“Earth, Wind and Water” raises a major issue for the city of Makarska as in many other coastal cities of the Mediterranean Sea: the impact of mass tourism on its social and cultural heritage. For some years now, the city has been investing great efforts in changing its image as a balnearic destination and promoting potential infrastructure and cultural and social facilities for residents. Three sites were proposed in the historic city center with programs mainly dedicated to culture and food.

The old Teachers’ houses occupy the third floor of the Convent of San Francisco (15th Century). They were abandoned 50 years ago. The City Council has promoted the conversion of the Convent' Church as a Performing Arts Center. Inaugurated a year ago, it’s an example of how culture transforms depopulated territories. The Artistic Residence rehabilitates the last part of the convent that linked to the Performing Arts Center will allow many activities and will facilitate the passage of companies.

In order to boost local commerce and the attractiveness of the city center while making pedestrians safer in their commercial activities, the Descartes Town Hall wanted to study the redevelopment of the Descartes city center in its structuring projects for the year 2025.

Project Green Community is transforming public buildings in Petrijanec to be more energy-efficient, sustainable, and eco-friendly. Through smart renovations—like better insulation, renewable energy sources, and modern systems—we’re reducing energy use, cutting costs, and improving comfort. This project helps protect sustainability, inclusion, aesthetics and quality of experience while creates a greener future for our community.

This project is meant to salvage the Community's School (nowadays prone to closing down and ruin)  by reconverting it (partially) into a Community Center or what we know as a 3rd Space. The Community of Posaga- where also the School is situated - is faced with massive depopulation and economic disadvantage. Like many rural places in Romania, our Community is struggling to exist. the School- as symbol of the future- needs our boost and can be set as future example for similar rural communities.

Fiumalbo Plus – HERITAGE HUB, is a visionary model for inner area regeneration. By transforming the historic Seminario Minore di Fiumalbo into a Hub for High-Impact Education for Resilience, Innovation, Twin transition, Arts, Green solutions, and Environmental conservation, the project integrates heritage conservation, sustainability, and digital transition. The hub aims to revitalize the local economy and engage the community by blending training, cultural, and entrepreneurial initiatives.

Modigliana (4,295 inhabitants) is recovering from the May 2023 floods, facing 900 active landslides, and regenerating Pretorio Palace and Pretorio Square to revive its touristic vocation. Small mobile and transformable pavilions of wood and fabric will help revitalize the square, improve transparent communication on recovery and reconstruction phases, and encourage a new way of gathering in shaded public spaces, promoting beauty, collective care, and shared urban life.

The attention of the municipal administration has always been directed towards sustainable development understood as that type of development that "satisfies the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to satisfy their own". A growth therefore based on saving, on the protection of resources and on avoiding excesses, which translates into small measures or radical changes in the activities that can be achieved: the adoption of renewable energy sources.
