NEB Prizes 2022: All Applications

Site-specific artifacts in the Paediatric clinic in the city of Florina. The curative environment is in the core of the hospital architecture. The main purpose was to create a therapeutic environment for the mental encouragement of a patient through mural painting and other artistic activities within the premises of the Paediatric clinic. Artists from the department of Fine and Applied Arts of Florina (www.uowm.gr) and the art group “3K” from Ptolemaida, collaborate and create for this purpose.

This building is the maintenance base for the first offshore wind farm of Saint Nazaire, in France. The program and the design were carried out through dialogues with neighbours and the wind farm company. It's composed of an office part, dedicated to supplies storage and preparation, and a warehouse part. The project purpose a simple answer for social, environmental, climatic and aesthetics issues. It's mainly made of biobased materials, and also by a heating and an hygienic economical system.

Filare is about weaving threads. Turning and changing perspectives. Generating connections, experiences and learning. Imagining, revealing, broadening our gaze and approaching diverse realities. Promotes universal accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities, children, the elderly, and society, through contemporary creative interventions in rural areas in Extremadura.

BIAAF is MUCH MORE THAN FASHION: it is creativity, design, art, education, entrepreneurship, talent, culture. It is a platform devoted to discovering, supporting and launching promising fashion designers from around the world who show a high dose of talent and innovation. Based in Bilbao and running many activities, BIAAF identifies the emerging designers that will support, in a biannual fashion design competition inspired in Art, aimed at young creatives from all over the world (aged 18 to 35).

Milano, Postcards from a Possible Future is a project where the participants have learned sustainability, have started implementing it in their neighbourhoods, and have imagined their sustainable future, all to give shape to the Milano of tomorrow.

Knowing that if you can't imagine a sustainable future, then you can't start to build it, we devised a project that could ignite the spark in the mind of the participants, by giving them knowledge and helping them imagine and implement their future.

  "Bačvice" Beach in Split is a well-known place where citizens socialize through various activities throughout the year, and is especially known for the cult game "picigin", which originated here.  Several times during the year, the sea dumps large quantities of discarded seaweed on the beach. The “What to Do with Seaweed?” in cooperation with Ecological Society "Picigin Bačvice" organized the collecting of seaweed and applied it in local entrepreneurship.

Bamboopod® is the first and only system combining the natural beauty of bamboo with the cutting-edge technology of tensile architecture, fully prefabricated and easily buildable by only two people. Suitable both for temporary installations and permanent uses, it is calculated to stand snow loads and wind speeds over 120 km/h. It provides the unique experience of being instantly transported to a peaceful state of mind, bringing the feeling of impressive order due to the natural beauty of bamboo.

In 2017, Cascais began to rehabilitate the abandoned Santa Maria do Mar property to revive the Carcavelos wine making tradition in the region, a unique fortified Portuguese wine produced since 1907, and to provide an urban, highly densified neighborhood with a much-needed green space.

In 2022, the site was officially reopened, and the first harvest completed with the support of the public: the wine may still be sleeping in the barrels, but the locals’ sense of pride and belonging are wide awake

EXPANDED WOOD is an openwork material made out of solid wood which maintains its original strength but significantly gains width and minimally loses weight. The material uses raw wood in a more efficient way that can help to reduce deforestation. 

The panel consists of curvilinear wooden slats, which are joined together with an offset creating oblong, hexagonal mesh. The gaps between slats help to reduce the amount of raw wood used for production of the material by more than a quarter.

UGorà! is an inclusive Urban Gardening project that is run by enthusiastic volunteers, and as such our aim is to build a tight-knit local community for anyone interested in gardening and horticultural activities. Working together, participants from all walks of life can partake in the entire cycle of planning, looking after and harvesting of an organic vegetable garden, learning new gardening skills and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle and encouraging intergenerational interaction.
