NEB Prizes 2023: All Applications

MORPHPOLY is a team project with eight stable members of various interdisciplinary experises. This team has designed various participatory models to build “cities” with groups of children. Those “cities” are being built from various simple, everyday and sustainable materials.
The city models are understood as a multi-sensory way of exploring ecological ways of living in cities. The children have to plan living spaces for more than just one (human) species.

We face a great de-naturalisation of mankind. We see it in all aspects of our life. This
disconnection from nature is the root of all the wrong decisions and consequences we must deal
with. We are very blinded by debates about cherry picked aspects, while forgetting and ignoring
the complexity of the ecosystems. I believe there is a good soft way out of our problems, and it
is reconnecting with Nature. We need to learn how to change our cities and land use to bring
upon paradise.

This project empowers young people between 15 and 25 years so that they can develop actions related to environmental conservation in Portugal, giving them the knowledge, skills, contacts and motivations necessary to bring their ideas to life; provide tools and knowledge necessary for decision making; promote peer-to-peer exchanges; promote environmental initiatives that increase public participation in actions of environmental preservation and promote awareness about sustainability issues.

The Innovation Manor Lab 1.0 is part of a larger educational project designed to respond to the urgency of developing new competencies among heritage professionals, primarily in Ukraine and Poland. It is an e-learning course followed by practical experience in the field. The course design will include the GreenComp framework, creating a new quality of teaching for a new generation of heritage professionals and upskilling the existing workforce within this sector and a larger audience.

The Marathon is a series of activities and workshops with open calls for youngsters in the creative and social fields. The aim is to come up with prototypes of innovative and practical ideas that could be the impetus for developing innovation and a circular economy in Kosovo. The Marathon engages and empowers young and creative professionals/students. The targeted category of youngsters to participate in the Marathon are those who want to join the mission of eliminating plastic pollution.

A good vibe makes us think to emotions but also to the vibration phenomenon of physics. It refers to our knowledge and perception, and to our ability of empathize and resonate together to build a sustainable future.
At the boundary between science and art, Good Vibes is the project for inclusive STEM education through creative expression. We design hands-on learning resources, related to creative STEM, accessible for disadvantaged groups. Co-design is at the heart of the initiative.

We establish a school where all people involved feel comfortable and can develop. All people learn to actively participate in the world and to shape it for the future. The Marille is to open its doors as a state-recognized all-day school in Berlin at the start of the 2023/24 school year. It is a model school for sustainable education. The school will initially offer space for 30 first-graders and will be expanded into an inclusive community school with 13 years of learning.

Super Serios is a design research initiative aiming to develop a methodology of play in urban studies. Research-based art-games are spaces for knowledge distribution and creation. The event is playing, action is content. Players bring their experiences and opinions, in a performative exploration of urban topics. Learning and meaning creation are collaborative, through an aesthetic of participation. Super Serios follows an artistic research approach with an implicit pedagogical dimension.

CREATIVE LIVING PLACES is a cultural-led, place and people-centered initiative aimed to regenerate the Fontanelle district, a suburb of public housing, located in a historical Italian village. The project deals with arts, tactical urbanism, and community visioning. It aims to promote a dynamic setting (in other words, a place!) to trigger a transformative change at the local level using culture as driver of community engagement to build, physically and symbolically, a common and bright future.

In Europe the 35% of household waste consists of food waste. Led by COMPOSTER with a number of collaborators & HugeHug aims to eliminate food waste, transforming it to high quality compost by activating a transmunicipal citizens-driven circular process from schools to municipalties. To complete the loop, the compost is used to provide a nature-based solution enriching the degraded soil of Hymettus Mountain area where 11 cities meet for restoring the beautiful ecosystem of the mountain forest.
