Based on the concept of Circular Education, this initiative takes scientists back to their primary schools to deliver hands-on science workshops for children from their hometowns. Through this initiative students from underserved communities in Portugal create meaningful connections with science and scientists realising that “people like me can be a scientist” and developing positive attitudes towards science and higher education.

The long-term objective of Explorer is to foster community building and promote individuals’ connection with the surrounding biodiversity, by increasing civic engagement and improving relationships between children, young adults and older generations. It unites individuals with a shared passion for nature and community through hands-on, interactive activities, such as nature explorations and practical initiatives that use biodiversity, science and sustainable consumption as means to these ends.
Project 19 is an activity that combines ocean literacy, marine science education and communication. Portuguese high school students (15-18 years old) were invited to analyse scientific papers about concrete ocean problems and present what they found most relevant through artistic performances, visual arts and communication materials that they found appealing to their generation. Some outcomes included conventional formats. Others were very creative. All were truly inspiring.
The B!G Idea is a free creative thinking programme being delivered to Irish students aged 15 to 19, supported by partners and mentors. Creativity is a vital future skill, and this programme inspires youth to become empathetic innovators, leaders and trailblazers to positively impact society. Learning problem-solving, critical thinking, resilience and empathy, they create solutions to tackle issues such as climate change, displaced people, hidden poverty, diversity & inclusion, and mental health.

We go crazy about Camellias not only because of their aesthetic beauty and history but also because they were able to boost engagement and participation of a community and to transform abandoned soils into new areas of an Excellence Camellia Garden in Tuscany. The project started in 2020 and had a multi-sectoral, bottom-up approach in order to bring people closer to nature, regardless of their age, interests, and groups with a focus on young people, inclusion and protection of landscape.

The project intends to foster the overcoming of personal, cultural and social vulnerabilities of minors and their families through the co-creation of an open school model. For this purpose it adopts a circular intervention strategy that moves down from the national level to the local contexts. The partners established a network of 13 school-based educational presidia, designed as immersive and inclusive physical places open to the entire community also during extracurricular hours: the STEM*Labs
Land&Hand programs are implemented by KETTER&Co. This collective of artists, designers and researchers take vocational students from around the Netherlands into collaborations with entrepreneurs, landscape organisations, craftsmen and policymakers. The projects connect students to their environment, local materials and crafts by using methods from art and design education that focus on activating different senses. Students learn about sustainability, circularity and creativity, while the diverse collaborations help create local networks.
