NEB Prizes 2023: All Applications

EUROCULDE is an initiative that was born from our school to generate social and cultural value in our context, trying to open our pasture, as a natural environment, to the population; looking for new balances and uses of it that help its recovery and the restoration of its biodiversity.
Our project seeks a transformation, built on 3 European cultural itineraries. In these, you can find 27 stands have been designed (9 on each route) that correspond to the 27 countries of the European Union.

Univerbal (Liege, Belgium) trains migrant women community interpreters and is an intermediary with the local healthcare services employing them. Univerbal empowers its beneficiaries: Univerbal’s interpreters receive quality and tailored training, regain self-esteem, combat structural unemployment, provide service directly helping other migrants, and have shared governance of their project. Those receiving interpretations obtain affordable, quality services with short waiting time.

We operate in the voids of territories, physical and virtual, in search of abandoned shells, occupying space and assuming its shape. We want to create a new community by feeding through exchanges of knowledge in to inhabit a place temporarily but constantly. We are looking for a new model of living and working collectively, as opposed to a hyper-specialized and competitive work culture.

EDEN LAB aims to develop innovative ideas for transforming educational spaces, including through the presence of - and active interaction with - plants, to create healthy, resilient educational landscapes that nurture the full potential of children and youth.
EDEN is also a project, a word that recalls dreams, the dream of rediscovering a more intense relationship with nature, the dream of a truly special, beautiful, humanising school. And dreams condense into places that educate us.

A more sustainable and inclusive version of the ‘The Three Little Pigs’ tale characterized as Maruxa, Xaquín and Fuco bring circular bioeconomy to more than 1,000 Galician schoolchildren through the example of a wooden ‘batea’ (mussel farming system characteristic of the Galician Rías Baixas) and with the support of storytelling sessions and a school contest.

The project converts and naturalizes a historically occupied play area by a school sports court into a children’s playground, preserving the memory of the place by leaving the lines of games of the old court as traces of memory. A new topography of vegetation allows the garden to be recreated until the school level and create a new adapted access way. The new tree planting allows shading and biodiversity to be introduced into the playground. A staircase–stage makes the play area multifunctional.

seekicks is an ongoing creative platform enabling access to knowledge and resources in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship for design and art students, graduates, and professionals. One of the experimental formats we work on is the Start-up Studio. In the studio, we explore collaborative entrepreneurial skills development for arts and design practitioners.

The initiative is about transitioning from a dying, polluting, male-centric economy, to a green & innovative one, where women's role is more visible & youth decide the future. The aim is to develop robotics, financial, sustainability & citizenship skills among students, in the multidisciplinary, intergenerational&participative setting of a Robotics Hub and of various educational & co-design activities, that will further be used to develop an attractive, sustainable and inclusive urban area.

Triplex Confinium is the first strategic partnership between the architecture schools within the DKMT Euroregion focused on the spatial heritage of minor settlements and towns set along the borders of Romania, Hungary and Serbia. Its main objective is to create awareness, among local actors, tutors and students of our common BAUKULTUR as well as to imagine ways of addressing its strengths and weaknesses using a complex toolkit, combining various pluridisciplinar tactical approaches.

The building industry has a significant impact on the environment and without great transformations on both design strategies and building techniques the world climate ambitions will be compromised. According to the World Green Building Council, building and construction are responsible for 39% of all carbon emissions in the world.
We believe that to address this issue there we must considered two combined paths. New technologies of digital fabrication applied to the use of natural materials.
