Seven architectural-landscape interventions (climate islands): a pioneering initiative in the creation of inviting, green urban environments, capable of mitigating the impact of climate change. A perimeter route including 3,000 sq.m. distributed along Barcelona’s Port under shared landscape criteria: ribbon of pearls or patches of ecological significance which together form stepping stones (R. T. T. Forman), providing meeting, resting and recreational nodes while improving urban biodiversity.

What happens to your old clothes once you drop them in donation boxes?!

They get shipped to Africa, where they flood the African market, preventing the local textile industries to grow, putting many tailors out of work, and ending up polluting the African environment.

EMEKA employs local tailors in Kenya and Ghana to repurpose these second hand clothes. We collect fabrics from the second hand markets and upcycle them into unique clothing, while providing jobs for those in need. Full circle.

Latvia based architect’s office NRJA (No Rules Just Architecture) has prototyped the „Last House on a Dead End Street” – an architect’s coffin. Playing upon the shape of the archetypal house, the office has designed a minimalistic, clean resting place for those whose tastes don’t agree with the traditionally ornate coffins.

The WBS 70 is being brought into the new era and is equal to a new building. 250 residential units are being comprehensively reconstructed, upgraded in terms of energy-efficiency and equipped with new floor plans. The smart planning principles of the existing building, the clear proportions of the rooms, the optimized load-bearing concept, the good ratio of the areas are further used and supplemented by contemporary elements.

This house was built autonomously by one person for his family of four, between the trees of an underused garden that was reactivated as shared, productive land.

This project is about citizens regaining the ability to build a home with their own two hands, in ways that promote community and solidarity. With utmost respect for the site, the planet and nature. And through this frugal approach, achieving resilience: the capacity to adapt to whatever the future may bring.

While the newly laid-out market square retreats to the maximum in its design through its homogeneity and unexciting nature, thus declaring the historic half-timbered buildings in Bad Salzdetfurth's old town the main actors, the revitalisation of the access to the Lamme River in the form of a stepped structure also forms the auditorium for marvelling at nature. The interaction of man and river is just as much a goal as the subtle mediation and great appreciation of the historical heritage.

'Mittersisters' was the idea of Roza and Viola, sisters who wanted to promote sustainable fashion. Deciding on bespoke leather handbags, they set about sourcing raw materials and machinery. In 2016, they started to offer one-day workshops: start with a piece of leather, and end with a unique fashion item.

The project looked at the viability of turning a passion for design into a sustainable business. It's been difficult but successful, and the next step will be to rent a store-front property.

I'm creative with and by nature that got in love by fish skin and bones... I used fish skin and local and ecological (non-petrochemical) substances in order to create leathers and textiles. My work raises discussions about aesthetics, localism, whole-animal use and ecology awareness.

My downstairs neighbour is Maria, an Ethiopian woman with three children who has lived in Brussels for 15 years. Upstairs is Imad, a Lebanese journalist who arrived here six months ago. Everyday, I see Rashid walking by, a homeless man who gets his lunch from the foodbank around the corner. I know all this because I invited them all to paint utility boxes with me last summer with my project Less Walls, More Bridges.

And 1% only of all garments sold are eventually coming back into the loop.

There is enough plastic out there to create sport garments for generations.

A full ecosystem to recollect waste from the players and convert them back into their own sport's garments, garments which are 100% recyclable, infinitely.
