Shine, Create, Promenade! Sunbathe, Read, Moisturise! Welcome home in Budapest, living room on the side of the Danube. We showed how to rethink a public space, whether it is only a small car park or a huge riverbank. In line with the Municipality’s ambition for an open, green and empowering capital, RAKPART 2021 was a diverse recreational public space that invites citizens to use it as many different ways as possible, while lounging by the riverside and enjoying the sunshine.

In a collaborative effort, students form groups and create their own ventures together. The students then set out, through the venture, to tackle a sustainability problem in order to come a bit closer to reaching the UNSDGs. Along the way they get mentoring from renowned experts on the SDGs as well as key masterclasses from leading entrepreneurs in running the business.

ANEL Art Complex is located south of the town of Sozopol, Bulgaria, a natural phenomenon with many fjords, the most beautiful and picturesque part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is located in a place kissed by God. During the construction of the complex a unique symbiosis between architecture and nature was achieved. It has a remarkable botanical garden and a unique for Bulgaria sculptural exhibition with works by the most famous Bulgarian artists in the field of plastic art. 

SOA Research initiated and coordinated a 12-month project to roadmap Community-Led Housing (CLH) in Ireland. Project stakeholders included eight Irish CLH groups as well as public and private sector housing practitioners in Ireland and across Europe.
The resulting publication comprises a series of free handbooks on Community-Led Housing, offering guidance in the areas of Policy, Finance, Land and ‘Getting Your Group Ready’. The project led to recognition in law of CLH in Ireland in 2021.

How do you imagine participating in an open action in public space? Could a playful urban tool enhance community building through participatory practices? ‘Participation on Wheels’ moves around the city in search of inclusive processes of exploration and planning neighbourhoods. It has the magical ability to be transformed and aims to discover together your neighborhood and collectively brainstorm ideas for the sustainable future city. What do you think? Riga-based architect Andra Smite has converted the dilapidated Stuki barn and cattle shed into a home for modern family living. The 380-square-metre house was originally constructed in 1931 - the building’s almost 100-year-old stone walls have witnessed the WWII and neglect of the Soviet collective farming. The barn had fallen into a state of disrepair, prior to its renovation cattle was still being kept in part of it. 

The Forest Path is an intervention based on respect and conservation of the environment in the natural setting of Collserola Park. An ecological, attractive and suitable construction for the burial of the ashes that biodegrades 100% in one generation. It is an extension of the Roques Blanques regional cemetery; a cemetery, with more than 30 years of history, that has known how to adapt to changes by adopting new paradigms of burial.

Lamia hub is a requalification project which will transform a rural school into a hub where it will be possible to do arts and crafts in contact with nature and local culture.
Lamia hub gives a new life to a rural school turning it into a creative laboratory of exchange and cultural fertilisation between artists, experts of different disciplines, and youth from the area.
Lamia hub is a source of inspiration for remote workers who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities.

Mixing the concepts of fabric-formed concrete structures and the ancient Japanese plastering technique (Akarabe), this modular, adaptable and mobile tiny house looks to apply the best of traditional knowledge and digital manufacturing to create an ecological, new light-weight, mobile and affordable solution for living. The sustainable sourcing of materials for the construction of the tiny house contributes to the protection of natural ecosystems and to least damage caused on urban areas.

Živel initiative will focus on groups of society which are not targeted by other environmental organisations such as elderly people and students from local university. Živel Initiative will reconnect these marginalized groups to sustainable society and bring them feeling of belonging using attractive tools such as exploring countryside, theatre, workshops, movie streaming and traditional customs.
