NEB Prizes 2023: All Applications

Vaidila Square and Oaks Grove Park are recently renewed public spaces of a prefab panel housing neighborhood. The new design kept qualities of modernist planning ideas but enriched the neighborhood with new qualities - spaces that encourage social inclusion, equity, community empowerment, active lifestyle and teenager occupation. The project stimulated overall district regeneration and became an example of how the post-soviet neighborhoods can change into modern and cozy spaces.

The Tannery (Garveriet) was in its prime in the 19th century. Economic and industrial development eventually forced operations to close. The grounds became a shabby, forgotten area where almost no one except the police had a purpose for visiting. The buildings fell in despair. The ground was contaminated.
Today it is a mecca for food connected to sustainability issues. The old tannery has been transformed to a quality food destination combined with a brand-new light and bright wooden church.

UrbActivistas project was the parallel event of the NEB Festival which involved people in the design of more beautiful, fairer, and greener cities. More than 150 citizens participated in actions such as garden design, collaborative graffiti, ceramic and painting workshops, and Jean Jacobs in order to reflect, create and intervene in the public space. They generated ideas for transforming not only our reality but also our street, our neighbourhood, our city... our future.

We created a unique professional model on a country level through an outstanding product family. We do not only satisfy customers but aim to ease the life of a population, thrown on the edge of society. By the project that is proved to function on the material, technical and logistics levels, our customers and foundations that are strategic partners, are equally gaining support. Our project aims to support the lowest social class of pets: those in animal shelters.

The project unites and goes hand in hand with a collective hope: the revival of a square, Plaça del Carme in old town of Olot. The approach was like acupuncture, a catalogue of actions to give new life to that which already exists, improving urban comfort, invigorating ground floors and highlighting heritage. It is a project of projects. It started by reformulating the commission, allocating 70% of the budget to ground floors, essential for the vitality, comfort and safety of the public space.

"Actus, for Vjosa" brings together Albanian and European artists in a contemporary dance work dedicated to the preservation of Vjosa, the last wild river of Europe. Created by world-renowned choreographer Gentian Doda, with a musical composition by Çezar Aliaj, the project is a celebration for Vjosa and every other free river.

The project is divided into thematic strategic actions that start from the recognition of the historical-botanical value of the Park, to restore a new balance within the landscape structure and at the same time, exploiting existing regenerated extraneous elements, functionally redevelop some areas by identifying plausible vocations that ensure its survival over time and careful use by the community. TOVA is one of the world’s first architectural constructions to be built with a crane WASP 3D printer. It can be completed in just weeks using 100% local materials and labour, generating zero waste and close to zero carbon emissions. This system is replicable globally and showcases a promising response to the surge in housing emergencies. The project was developed by a team of students and researchers from the 3D Printing Architecture programme of IAAC.

On the madaster platform, the raw material data of a building are documented on the basis of BIM and enriched by external databases. The bundled data is reflected in a digital building resource passport in a comprehensible and differentiated way. This passport enables financial and circular valuations as well as the calculation of the embodied carbon and thus supports the management and disposal of real estate and the reuse of components and materials by establishing a material cadastre.

Uzana Fest is a symbol of green ideas and care for nature. The festival meets green thinking and successful ecological patterns, presented in 10 zones through eco practices, activities, healthy products, art initiatives, green challenges and music. The festival brings people closer to nature and reminds them of the relation with nature by creating a sense of harmony and connectedness. All this happens in the Uzana area on a beautiful meadow, located in the geographical heart of Bulgaria.
