NEB Prizes 2023: All Applications

During summer, Openstreets transforms the streets of Molenbeek into a learning lab for a climate-friendly and inclusive city. The car-free summerstreet travels through one of the most dense, low-income and polluted neighbourhoods of Brussels. Openstreets invites neighbours to participate in a wide range of free activities. They are also invited to rethink their streets and the public space, by implementing micro-interventions and by participating in holistic design workshops and a summerschool.

THIS PROJECT AIMS TO BE INCLUSIVE, RESILIENT AND HONEST WITH THE ENVIRONMENT THAT SHAPES IT.

The implementation and assessment of evidence-based pedagogical interventions for school children (aged 6 to 10) and an in-service training model for primary school teachers, while valuing non-formal education through artistic, playful and creative education initiatives in primary schools. Children’s perspectives and voices are at the center of the interventions.

As a national and local pilot, through interdisciplinary linkages to the SDGs, a sustainability coordinator, outdoor pedagogy, green procurement, upskilling initiatives for management to custodial staff, there is no end to Skogomeskolan’s ambition to expand existing initiatives and continue to test new ones to achieve its ultimate goal: a systematic whole-school approach to sustainability education that includes students, staff, management, supporting staff, partners, and the local community.

"RC Metro Citizens in Transition" is the project for the “Metropolitan Agenda for Sustainable Development” (AMSvS) of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria (RC). The project was born with an agreement with italian Ministry of the Environment (ex MATTM) and the Metropolitan Council of RC (2019). The project aimed to create a positive impact on the community and facilitate social innovation processes for the co-design and participatory regeneration of places.

This program united Swedish & Italian students to collaborate on four Tuscan projects. We reconsidered our relationship with nature through a uniquely designed 'nature-reconnecting' experience using hands-on learning, farming, cooking, seminars, and real-life assignments. We explored how life-centred design practices such as biomimicry (nature-inspired) and nature-based entrepreneurship can create sustainability and resilience in food production, climate change, knowledge & connect communities.

Planet A - Digital community for and by youth with ADHD. Planet A is an app that makes it possible to understand and master your ADHD through a community. This new network consists of emerging content that is generated by its users. The content exists in a digital uplifting and positive environment that motivates learning about ADHD. The solution is designed to be accessible no matter where or when the user is in the need of an uplift on the journey of ADHD.

Dusts Catcher Kits are an experimental deployable and fully-recyclable learning instrument that are designed to visually inform communities what kind of dusts, if any, is dominant in the air we breathe. Dusts Institute proposes dusts collecting workshops employing Dusts Catcher Kit; outdoor educational gathering to collect, analyse and sensitise toward invisible air-borne dusts in the air we breathe with the aim to raise awareness about particulate matter and empower local communities.

La Provvidenza, a district of Caltanissetta in Sicily, has been the victim for decades of a social, cultural and environmental paradox: being considered the cerebral periphery of the city despite being in its historic center, adjacent to the central square. The smalland beautiful community that survived depopulation is strong, multi-ethnic and ready to face change: Provide for Providence is an idea of the future, a real resource and a model for the advancement of European cultural identity.

The housing typology of the 1960s differs from the needs of contemporary living, a situation that renders the dwellings obsolete. This situation is detrimental to child development and the quality of life of older adults. The U.S. Solar Decathlon interdisciplinary team, along with the student community, San Pablo District authorities and neighbors, have worked together to develop and implement sustainable initiatives that improve housing comfort and health.
