NEB Prizes 2023: All Applications

The philanthropic association Promonumenta (Friends of the Cultural Heritage of Leon) has been providing protection and preservation for years to many important historical sites, ruined and abandoned cultural heritage buildings (small and apparently non-important monuments) throughout the whole province of Leon, in the northwestern part of Spain. It’s located in Leon city, in a historical building. Its members share partnership with more than five hundred people all over Spain and abroad.

The Centre for Narrative Practice, a repurposed ex-public library, created through Manifesta 14 Biennial, serves as a hub for exploration, education, teaching and sharing of various forms of narrative practice. From poetry to podcasting, illustration and photography, the Centre offers a range of tools and resources for groups of all ages to engage with. Its goal is to support reconciliation processes between different communities through storytelling and sharing of diverse perspectives.

Every two years, one event ignites the streets and squares of Brussels: The Zinneke Parade. It is the expression of a wish to organise a big party in the city, that will make bridges and links between 19 neighboorhoods and the center of Brussels that will mobilise all the (socio-)cultural partners and associations. The goal is to show the multicultural richness of the city, make people from different horizons work together and break the barriers.

“A LSD trip, without LSD”. A once forgotten and shady passage, transformed into an explosion of colour, patterns, light and sound. A passage once used as hangout area for drugs and public toilet, has instead become a place and experience for all. This passage is an example of how giving value to a space, will cause people to respect it and use it accordingly. Contributing to everyday joy, this passage provides the passer-by an happy experience: a LSD trip without any negative side effects.

Deep Planetary Sensing is a multidisciplinary participatory art project. Immersive installations, participatory performances, soundwalks, workshops and a digital platform invite us to reconnect with our individual and collective bodies, and to enter into conversation with GAIA, the living planet we are part of. The project explores how we can relate in more caring ways to ourselves and the biosphere through direct sensory experience, reconnecting us with nature through sensing and feeling.

SHQIPVILLE project is a meeting social place that aims to promote and develop cultural exchanges between Belgium/Europe and Albania through literary and artistic meetings, art exhibitions, music, traditional culinary heritage events, podcast shows, promoting also universal values, such as diversity, integration, economic linkages, human rights, and social cohesion. Thus, we a) Promote Albanian culture and products and b) inform and advise Belgian citizens about Albania's touristic potential.

Invasive mosquitoes of the genus Aedes are a serious problem for public health worldwide as vectors of numerous diseases and the development of “green” and sustainable control practices, alternative to pesticides, is an urgent priority, as the WHO recently pointed out. The active involvement of local communities is considered a key factor for the success of sustainable vector control programs.

There are too many homeless families and too many homes without families. Homes4All is a fair housing model based on innovative impact finance that creates an ecosystem in which needy families find decent and accessible homes and investors make ethical and profitable investments. The project plans to quickly put the huge non-performing real estate assets back into circulation, realizing comfortable, beautiful, and energy-efficient housing in order to trigger a process of urban regeneration.

We were tasked with transforming this passive house into a modern, open-plan living space that would not only soften the boundaries between indoors and outdoors but also help our clients reconnect with their natural surroundings.
The design of this home is clearly curated, but it never becomes intimidating or overly made-up.

"Design wings" brings together young designers and small and medium-size Lithuanian enterprises to facilitate their collaboration. Working together they created 15 design solutions that are sustainable, eye-catching and in line with the principles of the circular and/or digital economy. Recent design graduates gained experience while working in the enterprises and creating design solutions. Equally important that enterprises and communities have received sustainable products and services.
