‘Lusk for Life’ is a community led Action Plan for the small Irish town of Lusk. It provides a model for a community-led urban renewal, making best use of existing assets and latent potential in Lusk to plan for the next decade. The focus is on climate resilient strategies, including designs and proposals for more intensive use of public and green space, active travel networks, biodiversity and densification of the historic town centre.
The north Dalmatian village of Škabrnja, with less than 2,000 inhabitants located in the Zadar County of Mediterranean south Croatia, was left with a legacy of complete and utter destruction. It goes down in history as one of the darkest places in the five-year conflict during the Balkan wars.
The core of destruction in the village was the Vladimir Nazor School with the massive graveyard of villagers.
Students and teachers transformed the stigma of war into a most modern school in Croatia.
Lokall is a solidary-based vegetable delivery service, that answers to the pandemic-related needs of three different communities: It creates accessibility to healthy food for those in need, a feeling of belonging for those who were isolated, and new revenue for farmers that could not sell their products anymore. It is run by students and volunteers and aims to make local organic food accessible to all, while spreading the importance of ethical, sustainable, and local food production.
Odyssea Academy promotes professional integration for vulnerable people, such as migrants, young locals with low income and marginalized women. Originally the building, in a degraded neighbourhood of Athens’ Metropolitan area, was an abandoned warehouse. A team including architects and designers conceived renovation plans around the inclusive OA project. Refurbishment was carried out with local residents and beneficiaries, using reclaimed materials. Today the Academy is a nurturing environment for personal growth, training and self-reliance.

De Korenbloem is an innovative housing project for vulnerable residents in Kortrijk, Belgium. This “care campus” is designed for people with early-onset dementia, stroke-related disabilities, and somatic symptom disorder. It combines residential buildings - two made for the project and two repurposed villas surrounded by parkland-, with a network of facilities, such as day-care and a neighbourhood services centre. The project aims to advance adapted, multifunctional and socially integrated care systems that reduce isolation.
