Description of the project
Summary
Our ambition is to sow the seeds of the New European Bauhaus in the NextGenerationEU - creating shared growth. We will create the foundation for an association that will protect the voices of the youth and break down the class ceiling - allowing for the thoughts and ideas of the youth to influence and accelerate the green transition.
By establishing an inclusive platform with a democratic, holistic and interdisciplinary approach, it will involve the next generation directly in the NEB Movement. Taking its point of departure in Denmark and then further developing throughout Europe. The NextGenerationEU need a platform where they can be heard and affect the future while also absorbing NEB into their own culture moving forward.
Our ultimate goal is to become the voice of the youth. The framework will allow for mobilisation of young professionals and students through international and interdisciplinary collaboration. This will strengthen the EU identity in its young citizens and encourage a feeling of responsibility and connectedness across borders and disciplines.
Through a number of initiatives we will reach out, inform and encourage the younger generation to become a part of The NEB Movement. We want to create an association where the generation of tomorrow has a chance to be heard. We will kick start an association with the ambition to make a movement that can spread across all of Europe, but we must start with our own community. Therefore, the prize money will be used on a kick-off event.
Co-creation event:
- Presentation of NEB and a number of key challenges which have been identified as a response to the EU call in September. This will be done by experts within the fields of the NEB initiative.
- Breakout sections:
- Interdisciplinary group discussions
- Goal: Establishing solutions to key challenge
- Compilation of the breakout rooms and the key solutions creating foundation of the constitution of an association
- Networking session
Key objectives for sustainability
In order to solve the climate crisis, we must capitalise the EU's resources across disciplines and ages. This concept will aid the NextGenerationEU by providing a platform where all ideas will be heard and considered on the same terms as already established professionals’.
As the NextGenerationEU, we are the ones who are going to shape the future we form today. Yet positions of power are primarily situated with the older generation. We believe a balance should be put into place when important decisions about the future are made.
If sustainability should be understood as leaving the next generation with the same opportunities as the current one - in regards to economics, environmental and social values, we need to take the wants and needs of the NextGenerationEU into consideration. What constitutes a beautiful life may differ across generations and geographic areas, and our goal is to ensure the next generations' possibilities of having a beautiful life - in their own terms - whilst also focusing on the crisis we are facing regarding climate, resources and biodiversity.
The young generation are not only the ones who will be the most affected by what is put into action today, but they are also full of innovative ideas. They grew up with the climate crisis and sustainability is therefore often included in everything they do.
Sustainability should also be understood as this project is ever evolving as it will be the stepping stone for the creation of a movement that will go beyond national borders and within only a one year time frame.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
The concept is to allow for the NextGenerationEU to discuss the topics that lie at the hearts of the participants. What these topics will be, we cannot decide beforehand as the goal is to establish a democratic forum. However, it is also at the core of the association that the values of NEB is an established part of everything we do.
Therefore we will emphasise inclusion, aesthetics and sustainability.
We see aesthetics, design and art as core tools to make cultural changes. Without these, it is impossible to secure quality of experiences. Aesthetics and other features that speak to our senses are unavoidable in making the european society more sustainable and inclusive. Through conscious aesthetic decisions, it is possible to affect behaviour and mindset - in a sustainable way. A new aesthetic movement should be one that shows the beauty in creating inclusiveness and values, long lasting artefacts and buildings that age with grace, so that we create not only for an aesthetic moment at the time of creation but also for a persistent beauty over the decades to come.
This is not about creating new aesthetically pleasing buildings. Rather, it is about heightening the quality of experience in already existing buildings into something which is deemed agelessly beautiful across generations.
Key objectives for inclusion
It is a main focus in the association of the co-creation event and the following work, that the participants will be represented interdisciplinarily. They will work towards shared goals based on democratic discussions with the NEB initiatives as a starting point. Co-creation is a key aspect of mobilising the voices of the youth in the debate of creating beautiful lives across generations and state borders.
In order to support inclusivity, the communication will be online as well as physical. To ensure inclusive and constructive communication, we will create a dialogue based interactive platform , where we can upload questions and it is open for inputs from all regardless of level of education, social standing, geographical location.
Even though the first event starts off with a smaller national outreach, the ambition is to eventually become an international European association - creating a forum where the ideas of the NextGenerationEU will be shared, fostered and grow. In the process, it is important to work hard on creating a culture within the association with an open, communicative and collaborative democratic aproach where there are no stupid ideas and everybody should feel valid and worthy. By allowing vulnerability, we allow for shared growth - in an innovative environment.
We want to focus not only on delivering a voice for the youth and accelerate the green transition, but also strive to become an organisation actively involved with creating an inclusive European culture where arts, ideas and thoughts are shared across state borders. We believe that we can help strengthen the European identity and feeling of connectedness. Allowing for the youth of Europe to lift each other up and carry the load of creating a better future together.
Innovative character
We believe that it is our duty to enable the NextGenerationEU to be heard, but in order to be heard, we need to utilise the voices and help consolidate them. Therefore, this initiative wants to create a framework allowing young people across Europe to collaborate and communicate.
We wish for co-creation across borders, and ultimately create an environment fostering innovative ideas. By sharing information and visions across borders, we can utilise the unique competencies and knowledge from each individual. By creating a collective pool of ideas, innovation can thrive and grow throughout Europe. We will feed into each other’s ideas and grow stronger through networking, idea sharing and partnerships across the EU.
The association will strive to collaborate with existing organisations and research institutions in order to help young people across Europe meet a shared goal of making sure the New European Bauhaus movement includes and is affected by the NextGenerationEU.
