Description of the project
Summary
At Green Tiny Houses, we create accommodation offers that understand sustainability not as a label, but as an experience. Our mini-holiday homes are there where no hotel can go: in the midst of nature, from the sea to the mountains. In addition, we build the Green Tiny Houses completely ecologically and health-compatible for the occupants. The 22 square meters are full of green innovations that make sustainability tangible. We call this the tourism of the future - which protects nature and inspires people to lead a more conscious life.
The Green Tiny House at Salemer See in the Duchy of Lauenburg has been our first realized project back in May 2020. During the summer of 2020 we also had three other Green Tiny House locations that had an occupancy rate of way over 90% between the first and second lockdown due to the corona pandemic. These locations were camping sites in Büsum (Schleswig Holstein), Hooksiel (Lower Saxony) and Carolinensiel-Harlesiel (Lower Saxony). Since December 2020 another Green Tiny House is set up on a colorful wildflower and orchard meadow at Gut Basthorst in Basthorst (Lower Saxony) for the whole year. Since May 2021 after the lockdown came to an end the Green Tiny Houses at Gut Basthorst Salemer See and Hooksiel can be booked again.
On the 18th of June our first Green Tiny Village with 18 Green Tiny Houses in 3 different designs will officially be opened in Carolinensiel-Harlesiel right next to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage of Wadden Sea. Until the end of 2021 we are building Green Tiny Villages with between 15 and 40 tiny houses of different designs across Europe (1 on the Island of Bornholm in Denmark, 3 in Germany and another at the Turracher Höhen in Austria), to make the world a little greener with every overnight stay.
Key objectives for sustainability
Green Tiny Houses are mini holiday homes that are built in a fully ecological and healthy living manner. Our guests can experience the future of vacation in just 22 square meters that are equipped with the latest green innovations. The houses do not need any compaction of surface and show that sustainability does not necessarily is connected with renunciation.
-
the facade of the Green Tiny Houses is made of CO2-impregnated Superwood from sustainable forestry and lasts between 25 to 30 years (Superwood A / S is a Danish company that has developed a unique and patented technology to completely impregnate wood without the use of heavy metals and organic solvents)
-
infrared heating instead of burning wood (only for the ambience)
-
reverse osmosis water filter in the kitchen to access pure high quality water from the tap
-
the bathroom is equipped with the most sustainable shower system in the world to date which was originally invented for the NASA and consumes up to 90% less of water and up to 80% less of energy than conventional shower systems
-
incinerating toilet that is working without any drop of water and burns all excrements at 600 degrees and leaves a cappucino cup full of ash that can be used as fully organic fertilizer
-
air-purifying system that cleans the air in the room within 24 hours just with the power of the plant inside that converts formaldehyde and other air pollutants into nutrients for itself together with intelligent skylights with automatic ventilation
-
climate- and resource-positive organic wooden hand and shower towels
-
all Green Tiny Houses are certified as sustainable holiday properties and accordingly only use a minimum of resources
-
all CO₂ emissions that occur are offset through regional climate protection projects and thus enable you to stay overnight in a climate-neutral manner
-
5% of the rental income is donated to regional nature conservation projects

Sweating is good for us! That is why you will find the “original” sauna at each of our locations: the Finnish sauna. The little siblings of the Green Tiny Houses are built just as sustainably and transform your vacation day into an aromatic experience that lets body and soul relax in depth.
Tiny work spaces
If you want, you can also use the Green Tiny Villages as a retreat and concentrate fully on your work. There are workspaces on site that inspire you with new ideas in front of a beautiful natural backdrop and reinterpret the term "remote work".
Key objectives for inclusion
You can book an overnight stay from a price of 125 € per night including final cleaning and thus the Green Tiny House is suitable for up to four people makes the vacation in our Green Tiny Houses affordable to almost anyone. This can be families with two adults and up to two children or a total of three adults which means the price per night per person is in average between 80 and 60 Euros for a stay of minimum 3 nights. Furthermore the use of 4 e-bikes with a range of 60 kilometers and the sustainable mini sauna house is included in the price per night so the average price per person per night for a stay of minimum 3 nights is between 40 and 50 Euros. For sure the Green Tiny Houses are also perfect for couples, best friends, and solo travelers. If you are traveling in a bigger group you can book more than one house in one of our Green Tiny Villages. It is our goal to offer our services in every country allover Europe.
The equipment is completely in line with the conditions of a healthy living and therefore ideal for allergy sufferers.
We offer free wifi to our guests which means even in the midst of nature you are connected to the world. Furthermore the integration of a digital guest folder app within our Green Tiny Houses gives us the opportunity to include all service providers from the region to build a value chain that enables the development of a prosperous and regional sustainable tourism ecosystem that brings wealth to all stakeholders of the destination.
We shift the focus of the public from overcrowded cities and urban hotspots to the rural areas and offer an alternate and attractive accommodation that can be used for tourism or as a place for living to stop the rural exodus and bring the people back from the cities to the countryside.
Results in relation to category
Our Green Tiny Houses offer a modular, adaptable, mobile and alternate living solution that meets the highest standard in terms of sustainability, quality, inclusion and design while reducing the use of resources to the minimum and thus represent the New European Bauhaus.
To build our tiny homes no compaction of surface is necessary and our concept is totally in line with the SDGS.
In the future our Green Tiny House concept can also be used for the development of new villages that shift the focus of the public from overcrowded cities and urban hotspots to the rural areas. We offer an alternate and attractive accommodation that can be used for tourism or as a place for living to stop the rural exodus and bring the people back from the cities to the countryside.
At the beginning of the evolution the humans where nomads and then became settled due to agriculture and industrialization. This lead to urbanization, compaction of surface ongoing alienation from nature use of unsustainable materials and getting used to unsustainable lifestyles. Now under the influence of Corona we realize that urbanization can not go further and some of us need to return to becoming nomads as digital remote workers that can shift themselves and their accomodations from one place to another in the wake of natural disasters and the ongoing climate change.

The corona pandemic taught us that tourism needs a long-term coordinated action to readapt its destinations through a more sustainable development.
