Description of the project

Summary

Sustainable standing workstation HOCH_X (table, stool, shelving tower) with ecological features

Sustainably healthy, because varied, work at a standing workstation is an undervalued field in the working world. Previous solutions are mostly based on complex mechanics in combination with non-sustainable materials and material combinations. In contrast, HOCH_X is an emphatically simple concept that can serve a large number of users thanks to its 2 sizes and a low price. The footrest of the table and stool allows many different standing/sitting positions. The product is based on non-toxic principles, regarding materials, surfaces, production and distribution.

Design: Prof. Andreas Mühlenberend and Holger Danneberg

Key objectives for sustainability

ecological features:

solvent-free non-toxic paint / waste-free use of paints through closed material cycle / partial surface coating through UV treatment / material-saving lightweight construction / lay-out for maximum use of board material / sustainably grown wood from certified cultivation / deliberately open designed edges for moisture exchange / stool cover: vegan felt / no irreversible material connections for recycling after use / durable and relocatable thanks to plug-in system / sustainable production chain / 1 production site from idea to product without intermediate trade / small packing size for small shipping volume / Co2 neutral shipping (GoGreen shipping)  / manufacturing energy by Greenpeace and own solar power

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

More than the product itself, the physical and symbolic effect on the user is important. Because HOCH_X transforms immobile "couch potatoes" into upright and mobile people. In particular, the free mobile postures of the user (made possible by the footrest) represent physical and symbolic gestures that are calm in the face of challenges or authority.

HOCH_X has an optional castor that makes the table itself movable. Perhaps this is also a symbol of changeability. Because not only a workplace should be movable, but also our thinking. The basis of this symbolism is embodiment. The asymmetry of the standing table HOCH_X underlines the multitude of diverse and varied possibilities of use.

Key objectives for inclusion

Low prices make Hoch_X affordable for a lot of people: Standing Table: 219,00 Euro / Stool: 108,99 Euro / Shelving tower: 179,00 Euro.

Results in relation to category

Modular: The product is based on a modular plug-in system.

Adaptable: Since the objects are freely positionable, different room situations can be handled. In particular, smaller rooms can thus become a workplace. The product is based on a modular plug-in system that allows all the advantages of material separation and moving or transport. The shelving tower can be freely equipped with a wide variety of filing systems. Depending on the use, the filing system is expandable.

How Citizens benefit

The tangible concretization of the ideas at an early stage of product development enabled early tests with probands and thus input and feedback for further development.

Innovative character

HOCH_X is a product that uses almost all known possibilities of ecological production and distribution.
