Project Description
Camp is situated in a sandy lagoon at Adriatic island of Olib and made of units called "Genijalna Pergola" (GP) . GP is a simple self-sustainable collapsible wooden box 3 x 3 x 2m with solar panel, water collecting system, shower with natural soap, two sea weed beds, hammocks and food production. Each GP in use takes 36 m2, space between is permaculture garden interspersed with pedestrian paths, watered with recycled shower water from GPs and fertilized from composting type of toilet.

lt will be situated in remote lagoon of Draga at island of Olib at 2000 m2 land, sloped south toward small, mild salty lake, deep inside lagoon. Each GP use natural resources such are wood, rain, sun, sea and sea weed to provide shelter, water, power, wi-fi, spice herbs, salt and shower. 10 units will be used for accommodation, unfolded they cover 360 m2, 1 for kitchen/reception and 1 for composting toilets. The rest of the camp space between units is covered with permaculture garden where campers grow food. Pedestrian paths connect all GP units and garden parts. Garden is watered with recycled shower water from GPs and fertilized with compost from toilets. Terrain configuration on the slope enables easy construction of composting toilets while abundance of sea weed at the beach provide excellent, nutrients rich, resource of the consumables for such toilets. To enable full self-sustainability extra garden, small chicken farm and additional rain water are available just 500m away where guests can bring food scraps and take fresh eggs and vegetables. To maintain 0 pollution policy regarding noise and light, camp is provided with "silent party" equipment, 3 channel wireless headphones with 3 different music for each mood and all lighting is solar powered LED. This camp we will use to host Youth exchanges and other international projects under the Erasmus+ program.
Key objectives for sustainability
Our key objective in terms of sustainability is given in the name of the project. In this camp:
- there's no pollution production, not even in terms of noise and light
- campers grow own food in camp's permaculture garden,
- permaculture garden is watered with recycled shower water and fertilized with compost from toilets
- food scraps are used to feed chickens and produce eggs
- each unit over solar panel produce enough electricity to sufficiently supply fan, computer, phone, water pump and light
- each unit collect rain water and store it in 1000 lit water tank underneath. Our island receive about 1200 lit /m2 of the rain yearly.
- each unit use sea weed, from 50m away beach, as a mattress until it is grinded in to dust, then it becomes fertilizer for tomatoes
- each unit has mini saltern on the top where, according to Dr. Masaru Emoto, we produce crystallized good vibe in the form of sea salt.
- each unit is equiped with jardinieres with herbs
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
Almost all materials used in camp building are from natural resources so the whole camp is blended in surrounding nature as ultimate aesthetic standard.
Here are some quality of experience in compare with camping as we know it.
- Sleeping at the sea weed bed and pillow significantly helps people with asthma and sinus issues so their quality of experience is highest rated
- All lighting in campsite is solar powered LED light and there's no speakers. That means we take " 0 pollution policy" very seriously even when it comes to noise and light pollution. There fore clear night sky and pure nature sounds are provided in campsite.
- Especially pleasant feeling is growing, harvesting and preparing own meal. It also includes transfer of a good energy because someone else planted food that we eat now and someone else will eat food that we just planted.
- Shower at each unit provide quick refreshment in hot summer nights and a beautiful start of the day in the morning
- Loud music and wild dancing without neighborhood disturbing, silent party in the forest or on the beach provides overwhelming feeling of freedom and happiness
Key objectives for inclusion
Population on Adriatic islands are considered to be people with fewer opportunities because of the distance and poor connection to mainland.
The idea that kickstarted this project was to give the opportunity to the people on remote Adriatic islands to use the beauty of our nature and resources in area without roads or any infrastructure and turn it in to profit .
Plenty of sandy lagoons in Adriatic looks very similar, they are deeply carved in the island, beaches are covered with dry sea weed leaves, at the bottom of the lagoon is a small lake with rain and sea water. There fore this camp should represent a successful business model for Adriatic islands and their population.
Innovative character
We didn't find any other completely self- sustainable camp with 0 pollution policy. Here is the list of innovations we are using here:
- sea weed beds and pillows
- camp produce electricity over solar panels and collect rain water to keep it off the grid
- everything is recycled and used just sufficiently
- silent party equipment to avoid noise pollution
- solar powered LED lights to minimize light pollution
- own self-sustainable food production on camp site
- composting toilets
- mini salterns for "crystallized good vibe" production
