Description of the project
Summary
The wind rises, environment changes, how does the human being react the changes he is submitted to? The long period of environmental stability of last years has allowed a cultural and social growth for civilization all over the world, but terrestrial ecosystem is modifying. We live the Anthropocene, in a non-linear and unpredictable world. Man has to face changes that he never has to and he’s neither biologically adapted nor culturally prepared. With global warming, people migrate, die, land disappear and food production becomes increasingly critical. As Paul Valéry used to say: “Le vent se lève!... il faut tenter de vivre!”. The wind is rising!.. Climate change is current and climate crisis are on the agenda. Man can’t be dragged away by the wind, he must play an active role in the world. Coming back to life is a sustainable attitude, respect for the world we live in and we are part of. We need to inspire individuals and institutions to introduce a metamorphosis. The wind is rising! is a present consideration, it is man’s answers to these changes, it is a new series focused on climate crisis’ creative responses, a series of strong opinions and concrete advice on what you can do as individual and designer. The wind is rising! is the need to give voice to the man’s felling of uncertainty and bewilderment. The wind is rising! is a community for those interested in sustainability issues, for those who want to share their experience and for creative minds who think about urgent matters of our time. The wind is rising! displays artists, writers and thinkers interested in “green culture”, climate change, sustainable economies, environmental outcomes. As a creative community it is essential to remember that we can help. We have the ability to communicate problems to a large audience and to trigger a change through design. We must guarantee that this won’t be a fleeting wind but an issue constantly growing. Things might be scary, but solutions can and will be found.
Key objectives for sustainability

the hosting of the website will be hosted in Dreamhost because their attention to the energy supply to and the footprint of their data centers.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
The wind is rising! is a graphic project created with careful attention to detail with an attractive graphic interface that succeeds in synthesising the concepts of sustainability and environmentalism that it wants to express. The wind is rising! is an independent magazine, composed of nine issues, each issue is a guide to how to survive the environmental crisis. The magazine has different contents and graphic development based on the theme of the issue. Each issue has a photo section dedicated to a chosen artist with a portfolio dealing with the current problem. Each issue also has ideas for change where graphic projects that help the environment are shown.
The project consists of the printed magazine showing in-depth content on the topic of environmentalism and sustainability,
The website serves to expand the content of the magazine and to continue the project once the printed magazine is finished. It has a blog to share ideas and will publish samples of the print issues, reviews and interviews and other snippets. the site also has an events section where events and workshops on climate and environmental issues are offered (also virtually). You can also buy the digital and print versions of the magazine from anywhere in the world.
Finally, the project is supported by an instagram profile which helps to spread the content further and maintain a community for discussion.
Key objectives for inclusion
For greater accessibility the project is entirely in English, with the possibility of being bilingual in Italian. Each issue aims to give voice to graphic and creative projects. The digital channels have been designed to give greater inclusion to the reader also in the proposal of contents for the blog or for the proposal of problems to discuss current issues together.
In addition to trying to engage the individual reader The wind is rising! addresses a community by creating inclusive and participatory events, with workshops and talks, remaining very active on social media.
Innovative character
More and more people are talking about the fact that newspapers and printed paper will soon be replaced by digital, and some scholars such as Ross Dawson predict that by 2040 printed paper will become extinct for good, but today more than ever people are choosing to go back to reading in newspapers and magazines. Independent magazines are a powerful medium for new ideas, images and opportunities. However, there are many ways to ensure sustainability standards are kept high, The wind is rising! has taken all possible measures to ensure our production has minimal impact, without compromising on quality. To provoke a paradigm shift, people have to go their own way. Workable solutions can only be found in a society that rises above the toxic rhetoric of left versus right, us versus them, science versus religion, social responsibility versus corporate profitability. The aim is to help unify all the disparate voices that are struggling to effect change. The wind is rising! navigates the fine line between the sense of revolt and the inclination to pull the plug and bury one's head in the sand. Through provocative articles, it aims to distance itself from the big questions about environmental change. It talks to environmental policy advocates and designers who are looking for solutions. The wind is rising! aims to draw attention to all the efforts that have been launched by various organisations and movements to influence change. And finally, it tries to understand how the revolution that is already on the way is unfolding... because let's face it, it should already be there.
