Summary
Timedrips is a faucet that gives a special anti-gravity impression and saves you water at the same time. In its operation Timedrips does not add any substance to the water and water quality is not impacted by any adverse effect, nor are any characteristics of water changed.
Although the water jet flows out of the faucet the observer will see that, even in natural room light, the drops, defying the law of gravity, float in the air or flow backwards or flow, in slow motion, stretching time, forward. You can adjust the settings of the anti-gravity vision on your smartphone, using the Timedrips application, or manually on the Timedrips control unit and then save the settings.
The project also aims to utilise local craftsmanship knowledge and manufacturing potential of local micro enterprises.
Key objectives for sustainability
Our key objective was to create an extraordinary object that makes sustainability attractive to everyone – even to people who seek extravagance and uncompromised quality in their everyday lives.
Water is one of the most precious resources of the future. Two-thirds of the global population (4 billion people) live under conditions of severe water scarcity at least 1 month of the year. It is our shared responsibility to save water when we can.
Although there is a paradigm shift happening today towards sustainable solutions, most of such solutions do not provide a pleasing experience in the moment, but rather build on the users' responsibility for the future. With timedrips, there is no such contradiction. The very nature of the amazing attraction of the anti-gravity faucet help to reduce water usage and thus provide a sustainable solution.
Furthermore, the manufacturing of the faucets (currently in final prototype phase) is carried out in an energy-efficient way, with reduced waste, while providing work for local European micro enterprises and craftsmen. Materials used are over 90% recylcable, and the rest can be downcycled.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
Every single particle that makes up all the waters on Earth, travelled billions of years in space and time. We were inspired by the idea to slow down the last seconds of their long journey before they reach your hands. Timedrips is a faucet that gives a special anti-gravity impression and saves you water at the same time.
Users of Timedrips can experience the ancient desire of mankind: to get an insight into infinity, and turn back time. When designing Trimedrips we kept in mind that we are creating a multifunctional object that is not only a faucet but a bathroom light source as well. tarting from this concept we created a design that has a quality feeling and unique aesthetics.
The faucet’s material is stainless steel, its fine polished finish with directional grain, providing a high quality elegant appereance.
Key objectives for inclusion
Instead of industrialised manufacturing at offshore factories, Timedrips is manufactured locally by micro companies and craftsmen. This provides work opportunities to people with such training and knowledge locally. In the meantime, it also highly reduces the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process.
On the other hand this provides a high quality output that can support the attraction of the visual illusion to reach a truly unique product.
Results in relation to category
Timedrips uses 1,5l water per minute under normal operation circumstances. Standard water faucets use 6l/min, while water saving faucets use 5l/min. This means a water saving of up to 75% can be reached by using Timedrips – this can have a significant impact on water usage in case the product became widely used in residential and non-residential buildings.
How Citizens benefit
In case using this technology become widespread, a significant amount of water could be saved. During the development we were building on craftmanship and local metal processing knowledge, thus reaching a solution that is locally beneficial on the creation side as well. Manufacturing steps can be carried out in a close proximity, limiting impact arising from transportation of materials.
Innovative character
Timedrips provides a unique experience when used, previously not seen in any residential faucet. This is supported by the unique high quality design and build of the product as well. The attraction of experiencing water drips seemingly denying the laws of gravity, while having the tactile experience of water touching our skin brings a special and unique attraction to our everyday lives. Using a product that is amazingly cool and sustainable in the same time is still a rare experience – we hope Tiimedrips can lead the way in a future where all this would be part of our everyady lives.
