Our project is about people´s enthusiasm , cooperation in the local community, it is about volunteering. The people see the importance of the environmental protection of local biodiversity. In the end they created the outdoor class, rainy garden and a minor fruit garden. The local communities. non-profit organizations and Kosice Self- governing Region joined our activity. We are convinced that individuals contributions can lead to partial renewal of climate changes in global range.

Summary
In the project there were integrated joint volunteering activities of many groups of people: school management, students, teachers, parents and school partners, non-profit and volunteering organizations, management of Košice Self-governing Region , local community of Košice-Juh neighbourhood and the public.
In January – March 2020 the group of students joined the eco competition realized by the Agency for Regional Development Support, n.o. based on the importance of the local biodiversity protection. Those students were getting, analysing and working on the information about the possibilities of the eco project of school revitalisation. They suggested a lot of elements to support the local biodiversity. The next step was looking for the external source of finance called the Oasis of Green Area as a part of the national project ENVIROPROJEKT 2020.
In May 2020 first rainy garden was created realized with the help of the Agency for Regional Development Support, n.o. , school employees and the volunteers from the organization Volunteering Centre of Košice Region.
In September - October 2020 the building alteration work were realized on the outdoor class and a minor fruit garden. Into its realization the students, the teachers and non-teaching staff and the volunteers from the organization Volunteering Centre of Košice Region were joined. In November 2020 the work on the project was completed.
In the field of the thoughts´ protection of local biodiversity was to the community of Košice-Juh neighbourhood, to the Košice County and to the public given, shared information about the project on school web sites, published in the paper of the local government office and web site of the Košice Self-governing Region.
Key objectives for sustainability
We started the cooperation with the volunteers, non-profit organizations, local community in the field of local biodiversity protection.
Outdoor school area was revitalized for outdoor seating. The students and emlpoyees formed the oasis by auxiliary craft work. They planted the ornamental shrubs and perennials. They created the herbal garden, the minor fruit garden and two compost sites. People from school are personally interested to keep local biodiversity. They have had the possibility to bring their own plants, shrubs and herbs into the eco garden. They also realized the standard maintenance of green area in the field of educational activities based on local biodiversity protection.
Outdoor eco class and first rainy garden forming has been the part of The Program of Landscape Restoration that is connected to the building of the water-retaining measures. Rainy gardens get rainy water from the roof and paved areas where water can soak into the ground and complete the sources of underground water and by the plants evaporate water into the environment. It has a good influence on the local climate.
By the good cooperation of the students, teachers and non-teaching staff the social climate of school has decreased.
The information about our Oasis of Green Area and local biodiversity protection was shared with the parents, school partners, community of local neighbourhood and other communities in the Košice Self-governing Region and with the public.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
The part of outdoor area of school – school yard with the seating places has not been used for a long time. Because of that a strong erosion of the objects started. The mentioned situation you can see in the pictures in enclosures.
The students and the teachers have had the possibility to bring own plant, shrub or herb in the eco activity „I take care of my plant“. The planting was realized by the students and the teachers who have had the knowledge of planting and the maintenance of the plants. They are personally interested in keeping of local biodiversity.

By the good cooperation of the students, teachers and non-teaching staff the social climate of school has decreased.
The project was realized with the minimum need for own school financial resources. When buying a construction and garden material we tried to get the most convenient price of orders. The purchase was realized from the budget of the Ministry of Education, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Office of the Kosice Self-governing Region in the national project ENVIROPROJEKT 2020. With the support of the Agency for Regional Development Support, n.o. all work was realized free of charge by the students, the employees and volunteers from the organization of Volunteering Centre of Kosice Region.
Results in relation to category
The activities of the project brought school new, revitalized surrounding, rainy garden and the minor fruit garden, outdoor eco class, relaxing zones with the seating places and accessing areas for eco garden activities for the teachers and their students.
The students and the teachers have had the possibility to bring own plant, shrub or herb in the eco activity. They are personally interested in keeping of local biodiversity.
The standard maitenance of planted green area is realized by the students and the teachers in the field of the educational activities based on the local biodiversity protection.
The students created the oasis of green area directly - auxiliary crafts and garden work. Those places can be used by all the employees, the students, partners of school for their business activities and as relaxing area in the surrounding of the plants, shrubs, herbs, trees, birds, …
At the present time we have prepared the project of other rainy garden and the gazebo and other relaxing zones in outdoor eco class and its surroundings and some indoor area of school full of green plants.
How Citizens benefit
In the project there were integrated joint volunteering activities of many groups of people: school management, students, teachers, parents and school partners, non-profit and volunteering organizations, management of Kosice Self-governing Region , local community of Kosice-Juh neighbourhood and the public.
We have expanded and intensified cooperation with volunteers, non-profit organizations, the local community in the areas of local biodiversity protection. They were mainly volunteers from the Volunteer Centre of the Kosice Region, People and Water, the Agency for Regional Development Support Kosice, n. o. and the management of the Kosice Self-governing Region. Through their communication media, they provided information about the project to other communities, groups of Kosice citizens and the entire region of the Kosice Self-governing Region.
The students have decided that their activities will be the contribution to the European Capital City of Volunteering - Kosice 2019. Those activities fullfil the goals of The Program of Landscape Restoration of Kosice County based on the change of the approach to the use of urban land and to the restoration of biodiversity processes.
The information about our Oasis of Green Area and local biodiversity protection was shared with the parents, school partners, community of local neighbourhood and other communities in the Kosice Self-governing Region and with the public.
Innovative character
In the project the application of social innovations at work with the community was realited – as the volunteering, dual education – integration and the accompaniment methods.
Joint volunteer activities and activities of several groups of actors: school management, students, teachers, parents and school partners, non-profit and volunteer organizations, the management of the self-governing region, the local community of Kosice-Juh neighbour-hood, the public were integrated.
By marketing communication activities based on local community and the public we started informing about the disturbance of local biodiversity through school web, social media, talk shows at the local area, newspaper posts. We tried to get people being interested in the importance of revitalization of local biodiversity, increasing subsoil, increasing water resources, recovery of local climate (overheating). In particular, joint actions of the personal contributions contribute actively to the renewal of disturbed ecology, the local climate and the global range.
We created the conditions for satisfying a strong need to intensify nad innovate different educational activities about the climate changes and biodiversity protection. And taking the fact into account that the school yard has green areas, trees, shrubs.
The creating of the oasis of green area in the school yard gives us the possibility to teach in nature the subjects as Biology, Ethics, Psychology. Mostly in spring, summer or autumn months.
