Summary

The Festival, MAKE A DIFFERENCE, THERE IS ... THE SUSTAINABILITY FESTIVAL is the project that is part of the large container of events selected by the Municipality of Rome for the historic Roman Summer event, three-year period 2020 - 2021 - 2022. The Festival includes a series of initiatives that have embraced the philosophy of sustainability, through green/educational entertainment, culture, art, craftsmanship and innovation, and aims to spread, among young people, and remind adults, the contents of recycling, respect for the environment, protection of the planet we live in; to share values ​​and better understand - in a participatory way - what CIRCULAR ECONOMY and SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT mean according to the 17 objectives of the 2030 Agenda created by the ONU. The project consists of an articulated calendar of events whose central theme is the concepts of sustainability through the dissemination of the 17 objectives of the 2030 agenda and where the leitmotif are PARTICIPATION AND SHARING, in an approach that is no longer frontal and includes musical performances with emerging bands that have embraced the canons of sustainability; theatrical performances for children, young people and adults represented in a renewed form that tell the difficult relationship between man and nature, interpreting its criticalities and alternatives, installations and innovative works by Recycled Urban Art, recycling ateliers created by the artists and craftsmen present at the festival, training workshops dedicated to the concepts of recovery and reuse in the kitchen with a view to recycling, green & educational games that give space to participation, sharing, imagination and creativity, spaces for comparison, discussion and reflection with interviews and lots of information that allows, in the presence of many experts and specialists in the sector, to make people discover and know the culture of sustainability and what great commitments await us to achieve it.

Key objectives for sustainability

With the Festival, the A.S.D. Sunrise 1, organizer of the Festival, aims to continue to create a true CULTURE OF SUSTAINABILITY, illustrating and explaining respect for one's own territory in a playful and fun way; highlighting the "virtuous" paths that many companies in the sector have implemented to bring glass, plastic and paper back to life, defending the environment, "making a resource" and giving new life to the materials used, creating economy and jobs ; strengthening the knowledge and use of the new sources of alternative and renewable energy - sun, sea, wind - less polluting, which replace the dangerous energy of fossil and nuclear power; explaining better the concepts of "Smart-City"; sensitizing the "Governance" to support the transition from the green economy to the blue economy and to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for the sustainable development of the planet by actively involving citizens. The project aims to bring the public and participants to a better understanding of the concepts of circular economy and ecological transition and, above all, to promote the 2030 Agenda for the sustainable development of the planet, pushing Governance to achieve the expected results; a format that through recovery, recycling, reduction and reuse, according to artistic design, technology, culture and educational entertainment, has the considerable potential to offer creative solutions that make you think; proposes "best practices"; emphasizes and brings to the attention of the general public issues that are discussed only by operators in the sector, such as the concepts of circular economy; develops environmental compatibility in all its logistic / organizational proposals; raises awareness on the issues of climate change, separate waste collection, clean and renewable energy, the circular economy and the blue economy.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

MAKE A DIFFERENCE, THERE IS ... THE SUSTAINABILITY FESTIVAL is a project that develops over several days and over multiple locations dedicated to the family and young people, which proposes the use of urban installations of creative recycling, music shows with those " band ”who have made recovery and recycling their main feature; and again the art of recycling, craftsmanship of reuse, show cooking of recovery, ateliers, workshops, meetings and workshops for greater ecological awareness and effective environmental protection; with the aim of combining "doing together" with the promotion of the culture of sustainability and the 2030 Agenda - the action program for people, the planet and prosperity signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 member countries of UN. In the Festival we gave space to the promotion and enhancement of urban spaces and to the creation and extension of an increasingly vast eco-friendly territory, which involved several important locations in ROME, the EUROMA 2 Shopping Center, the Field Brancaccio the Esposizioni events space, in the wonderful Serra of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, the Parco degli Scipioni and the Central Park of the EUR Lake. Furthermore, through the experience of remote connection favored by the health emergency, the event was made accessible to a public from remote areas of Europe. Similarly, the displays are "eco-sustainable" and aim to arouse curiosity and wonder with the aim of raising public awareness of eco-friendly choices, promoting creative reuse and generating the lowest environmental impact, allowing everyone an innovative experience it is satisfying. The skills put in place by the A.S.D. SUNRISE 1 since 2010 for the realization of events have meant constant commitment to evaluating every aspect of the "customer experience", ie the experience experienced by those who participate actively or only as a spectator, at all levels of the event.

Key objectives for inclusion

Through the experience lived with the initiatives that are part of the project it was possible to touch firsthand, in the relationship with the public, the visitors, the participants, their positive public responses and their main request was that of a new way to produce, distribute and recover, or to encourage companies to enter the virtuous circle of the circular economy and transform waste and residues into resources; consumers to learn to choose the most sustainable products, consume them responsibly, share them if possible and then repair or maintain them to make them last longer, then placing residues and waste in the right place. The format has managed to spread the CULTURE OF SUSTAINABILITY to a heterogeneous audience; The SUNRISE 1 Association, in network with many other Associations and Companies, through its activities does just that: bring to the attention of the general public those contents, often discussed and questioned only among experts, which give awareness of what through "best practices ”And choices of field can improve the health of the environment of the planet in which we live. It is a challenge that can only be overcome through its cultural diffusion, the awareness and awareness of citizens and their real inclusion and participation, with the expressed goal of wanting to improve "the quality of one's life". Improving the "quality of life" means first of all promoting and encouraging the development of an environmental culture consistent with the principles of sustainability, in close correlation with the development and rebalancing of the city ecosystem. It is for this reason that in all the different locations in which we carry out activities, in relation to the many different targets we involve, we try to give answers with experts to the increasingly pressing questions that have arisen with the CoronaVirus health emergency.

Results in relation to category

The Sustainability Festival wants to make a difference from an artistic and cultural point of view, dedicating itself to the development and promotion of the CULTURE OF SUSTAINABILITY welcomes new ideas and ways of understanding recovery, renewable energy , the circular economy. It is precisely through the playful and educational, civic and socializing aspect of culture that meaningful messages can be launched without rhetoric. Culture is talent, knowledge and continuous training; discovery, preparation and experience; intuition, involvement and passion; innovation, research and excellent results: this is what is needed when it comes to SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. The chatter is zero, the waste, the polluting gases and the social and economic imbalances that we produce do not. This is why we imagined that the combination of culture, environment, awareness was essential: thanks to games, music, entertainment, art and culture, we want to say NOTHING IS LOST! The project invites us not to stop at appearances, an attitude that often compromises our social relations as well. There is a need for a strong cultural change in everyday lifestyle, which can change the structures and behaviors of citizens and "governance"; and we want to achieve this change and a significant social and civil impact; we want to talk, through a new art, to a wider audience, with the aim of reaching, day after day, that slow and yet unpopular and unstoppable "CULTURAL RENAISSANCE" characterized by the CULTURE OF SUSTAINABILITY. The Festival intends to accompany children and teenagers, adults and teachers, cultural and social operators, in a path also of scientific dissemination that uses methodologies capable of stimulating emotional intelligence and creativity and capable of arousing full awareness of the physical-chemical processes that cause damage to the environment and human health to promote an authentic transition that leads us towards a SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLANET.

How Citizens benefit

In these seasons the reputation of the event has grown and the credit it has towards all stake holders in the area has improved: Institutions, Companies, Civil Society. or example, the Euroma 2 Shopping Center which, thanks to its enlightened Managers, has made its spaces available for several seasons now: the Société des Centers Commerciaux manages one of the largest Shopping Centers in Rome, which boasts a fluctuating turnout, around 30,000 daily visitors reaching 90,000 visitors on weekends. With the festival we have brought green & educational entertainment to the temple of shopping - transformed into a great Agora of encounter and comparison - to be able to speak to a wide audience. The free admission has also maximized the capacity for use and access to specific cultural content and pursues an overturning of the classic scheme of frontal use of the activities by actively involving the public in participation. The Sustainability Festival with its various initiatives has also produced physical and “intangible” benefits, which concern the pleasure / well-being one feels in participating in a cultural event; the creation of empathy and pleasant "feeling" between the artists, the artisans and the entrepreneurs founders of innovative start-ups; the training - which grows season after season - of a sense of pride in belonging to a community that focuses on specific and very important content, at a time when climate change is tangible; the sharing of values ​​for the people who gladly support the event knowing that there are direct and concrete repercussions for them too; the ability to create easy social integration, intergenerational involvement and exchange of experiences between people.

Innovative character

MAKE A DIFFERENCE, THERE IS ... the FESTIVAL OF SUSTAINABILITY is an engine of COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION, at a local and national level, which aims to raise awareness among the population and in particular the young public about the commitment to sustainable development; a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, by granting three essential elements: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection. On the other hand, speaking of Sustainable Development means knowing how to design a new economic model and a global society at the same time, through the concept of "common good". Through the various initiatives of the event we have carried out and continue to carry out a real EDUCATION activity to discover, knowledge and understand the 17 objectives for Sustainable Development, consistent with the objectives of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development. The innovative aspect of the Festival is precisely in telling the future of sustainability in a simple and direct way, to make citizens aware of the solutions that are already within the reach of the community, and to continue to remember that the future of civilization lies in sustainability. The Sustainability Festival is innovative in its socio-cultural impact where the initiative means: urban cultural regeneration through the transformation of places: the "temple of shopping" that becomes a place of knowledge; space renovation: locations that become a symbol of the concept of sustainable development; cultural vivacity; training of dedicated human resources; promotion of positive values ​​through playful / artistic / laboratory values. Finally, we want to highlight that the A.S.D. SUNRISE 1 and the free press METRO ITALY, with a preparatory project for the Festival - the RECYCLED REGATA -, won the BEST OF METRO INTERNATIONAL 2017 in the Special Projects Category.
