B-Bag is a start-up founded by four Belgian student entrepreneurs.
B-Bag, a reusable bread bag made from recycled PET bottles. A response to today's trend, namely sustainability. With this high-quality and trendy reusable bread bag, we want to make people realize that they can do even more for the environment. By putting a daily habit in the spotlight and offering a sustainable solution for it. Reducing the waste mountain and saving raw materials, that is what we stand for.

Summary

We responded to the trend nowadays, sustainability is gaining more and more momentum in this society. In Belgium supermarkets, they use plastic bags for fruit and vegetables. The government abandoned those because they are not sustainable. Unfortunately nobody thought about the bread bags we use. Bread is something very popular in Belgium, we saw that an average person consumes at least 34 bread loaves a year. If we do the math for you this is 340 million bread bags that end up almost instantly on the waste mountain only in Belgium! This is a big problem that we want to address. There are some alternatives on the market, but there is a massive lack of quality due to those alternatives. They only replace purpose of "a bag to hold bread", most of those alternatives do not care about quality and keeping the bread fresh. We think this is wrong, a bread bag his purpose is to hold bread as fresh as possible as long as possible. We offer an alternative that matters, a sustainable bread bag made out of recycled PET. This bag makes sure your bread stay fresh as long as your classic single use bread bag. 

Key objectives for sustainability

In terms of sustainability, the B-Bag is better than the classic single use bread bag and any alternative for two main reasons. First of all, the B-Bag is reusable which prevents that the bags are thrown away almost immediately on the wast mountain. A fact that not many people know is that this classic bread bags often still contain a layer of paraffin. This layer makes sure that your bread stays fresh longer. For this advantage you pay a higher price as disadvantage, due to this layer the bags are not recyclable. Now we only discussed the first disadvantage of this paraffin layer, but second. When this paraffin is transported by boat it is inevitable that a small portion of this paraffin ends up in the ocean. This paraffin stays on the surface of the water you can see it as oil on water, it will not dissolve. Our B-Bag is made for recycled PET, mainly PET bottles which still many people use and throw away immediately (also in our beautiful nature). This material is not only sustainable, it helps us to create the same effect as the paraffin bags, bread will stay as long fresh as you are used to it. 

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

As stated above, our bag is made out of recycled PET not only is this a major advantage. We wanted to do more then just getting the bag having the job done regarding freshness of the bread. We wanted to improve the user friendliness as well, we found carrying classic single use bags not so practical. We got out inspiration from the sailing and boat culture, they use a rol and click closing system for their water proof bags. It closes great and gives you an easy handle for carrying the bag, we integrated this in our bag. As it is a reusable bag we needed to make sure it is very hygienic. With our system of 2 bags connected we created this amazing user friendly breadcrumbs remove technique. As the inner bag is connected to the outer bag so you can pull the inside out easily and therefore you get rid of the breadcrumbs in no time. Still this was not enough for us, that's where our chose for the recycled PET comes for. Due to this material the bag is freezer and washing machine friendly. 

Key objectives for inclusion

Our road to market is mainly B2B, this is divided into supermarktes and bakeries. We are already in contact with some big players in the Belgium grocery chains. After some field research we can conclude that many bakeries are highly potential customers. The bakeries made clear that the reusable alternatives on the market at the moment are not keeping their bread as fresh as it should be. Why our concept is so in demand is because we do not offer a classic win-win situation, we offer a triple win! We as brand win the B2B customer is wining and most important the environmental win! Not only B2B but we do offer them B2C on our amazing website that will be soon launched. Here the customers are free to ask questions and find information about the process of the bags to our story.

Innovative character

To be honest, there is nothing new or innovative about the whole concept of a reusable bread bag. They already exist! We are not talking about the alternative bags on the market but think about you grandparents, they went to the bakeries with their own bags or with old bread bags. We did not invent something new! What we did is create the best possible bags in their category "reusable bread bag". Also the fabric is not something new, every thing we use like the system is not something new and unseen. But the combination of al the existing with a touch of design makes our bag "innovative" and certainly unique.
