The central place was completely repaired. It has not been renovated for more than 40 years - the tiles and benches were broken, there was no lighting. With the implementation of the project, the following things were made - a new flooring of high-pressed blocks and curbs, benches with pergolas, as well as waste bins, a children's playground with swings and two large combined children's facilities. An electrical network has been completely built. So now there is a place for relaxing.

Summary
The project "Restored central place (plaza) in the town of Sarnitsa, Municipality of Sarnitsa" was implemented under the program "Beautiful Bulgaria", with half of the funding coming from the municipal budget and the other half coming form national funding by the program. With the provided budget the central place of the town was completely repaired, which has not been renovated for more than 40 years - the tiles and benches were broken, there was no lighting. With the implementation of the project, construction and installation activities were carried out, consisting of laying a new flooring of high-pressed blocks and curbs, single and double benches with pergolas, as well as waste bins. A children's playground with swings and two large combined children's facilities was built. An electrical network has been completely built, and the center now has lighting by lamps placed on poles and lamps mounted in the pavement.
Sarnitsa Municipality is the youngest municipality in the Republic of Bulgaria at the moment. It has existed since 2015 and consists of three settlements - the town of Sarnitsa, which is the administrative center, and two villages - Pobit Kamak and Medeni Polyani. Although the municipality did not benefit from European funding during the programming period 2007-2013, in only 6 years of its existence it managed to implement about 30 projects, social and infrastructural, to improve the lifestyle of the population. The social projects are mainly related to the provision of services to disadvantaged people, and infrastructure projects are related to the construction of road and street networks, water supply and sewerage, renovation of public buildings.
Also, the Municipality of Sarnitsa is one of the few rural municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria that has a preserved young population, which has decided to live on the territory and not in the big cities or abroad.
Key objectives for sustainability
The project fully meets the understanding of sustainability, as it provides benefits for the target groups (the population of the Municipality of Sarnitsa and its guests) for a long period of time, including after the completion of the project. The renovated center place is publicly accessible, and its maintenance is taken over entirely by employees of the municipal administration.
The project budget was enough only for laying tiles, curbs, benches, pergolas, waste bins and children's facilities. On a voluntary basis, residents were involved in the improvement of gardens and green areas. They have planted trees, shrubs and flowers. They have also decorated the gardens with stones in the form of flowing rivers.
Also, the financial sustainability of the project is mainly related to the fact that the "owner" of the product of the project is the municipality (direct beneficiary), which in turn means that its use is guaranteed by all residents and guests of the municipality, as the main mission of the municipal administration is to take care of the well-being of its population and to improve their way of life.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
The Municipality of Sarnitsa strives and makes daily efforts to build infrastructure that benefits citizens and improves their lifestyle. Such is the current project, with the implementation of which the center place of the town turned its appearance into a modern European city.
The aims, related to the aesthetics of the project, have been fulfilled in the full extent, because with the implementation of the project the central place of the town was transformed from an inconspicuous and non-functional space into a modern central part with a seating area, built children's playground, installed lighting so that it can be used later in the day.
Concerning the quality of experience - the project was implemented in October 2020. All input materials are with good quality and consistent with the use of children. The center place is used constantly by both locals and guests of the town.
Key objectives for inclusion
One of the main goals in terms of inclusion was to create an accessible environment and the center place to be used by absolutely all people, including those who are disadvantaged from the point of view of people with mobility problems. Because of this, there is an approach that can be used by people with wheelchairs. Also, all alleys and spaces are built with appropriate dimensions.
Another aspect of the inclusion is that on a voluntary basis, residents were involved in the improvement of gardens and green areas. They have planted trees, shrubs and flowers. They have also decorated the gardens with stones in the form of flowing rivers.
Results in relation to category
The project "Restored central place (plaza) in the town of Sarnitsa, Municipality of Sarnitsa" corresponds to the category "Restored urban and rural areas". The project is an example of territorial renewal that combines sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion. The project was implemented and completed with the voluntary participation of citizens. So this was the involvement of the civil society. With their volunteer work the central place became more beautiful.
