Description of the project
Summary
The Gartener is the space that connects creative and entrepreneur people to create projects in collaboration. Like the New European Bauhaus, The Gartener is aiming to develop disruptive cultural projects by putting in contact transdisciplinary skills that will share a diverse point of view.
The platform is divided into three sectors: the Creative Dinners, the space where people from all ages and profiles gather to talk about ideas (the relationship between the environment and people, for example); Sifer, the app that will let our niche of people create their own profile, upload their most recent idea, and find the different skills that will collaborate with them (the name comes from the dancing "cypher", the circle where dancers can learn from each other by showing their talent); and finally the Studio, a future studio to work on communitarian issues by the collaboration between local entrepreneurs and creators.
We have already began with the Creative Dinners collecting a bunch of conclusions and we are working on the online platform Sifer. At the end, each sector is an evolution of the previous one.
Key objectives for sustainability
Our main goal in regards to sustainability is to create unseen projects by gathering different profiles into an idea with a transdisciplinary and sustainable working ethic (understood transdisciplinary as everyone working together with their specific abilities for a common goal).
Key objectives:
- Connect the right people/entities warranting a profile that works on sustainability.
- Develop a solid value on sustainability by embracing "green" projects and partners.
- Developing internal projects by recycled or degradable materials.
- Be based on biomimicry.
- Studio: a creative space made out of design and materials based on biomimicry.
From our experience, we have observed that most of the projects, no matter the sector, are handled by workers in similar fields. It hasn't been long since artists began to work with scientists to find new forms of expression (the AI artworks) or technologists work with fashion designers to innovate the way we dress (BALAB Factory developed 3D printed fabrics from recycled materials to create sustainable fashion), among others.
Said that, we strongly believe that there is a gap for a catalyst to create projects that are not discovered yet. We want to be part of that gap helping talented people find each other to develop our future sustainably. Sometimes it is nothing more than working with the right people. Imagine an architecture where architects not only work with other architects or engineers, but with zoologists to understand nature, coders to build an automated space, and biologists to make it biodegradable. This is our final goal for the Studio, the creative, techie, and "natural" space where each creator can develop their abilities.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
Collaboration permits gathering very diverse profiles, from coders to designers.
Key objectives:
- Developing our brand to show our three basis: design, science, and entrepreneurship.
- Encourage the connection with designers or artists to achieve humanized results.
- Giving tools to be able to create beautifully designed projects.
- Implement biomimicry - design inspired by nature.
- Let every creator enhance their personality as aesthetics are the reflect of self-expression.
One of the problems of having the same profiles working on the same project can be having a result far from humanized aesthetics. Not every engineer builds a beautiful machine or every designer works on a practical sketch. By demonstrating our love for design and the need for practicality in our brand, we can encourage collaborations between analytical and emotional creators. Besides, the openness and diversity of skills within the platform will be helpful for our users to find complementary abilities. A leader should lead by example and we should do so by giving the right tools and knowledge to show their own sense of expression.
Key objectives for inclusion
The Gartener gives the opportunity to those who are starting to develop their skills by a collaborative atmosphere.
Key objectives:
- Connect as much diverse skills as possible.
- Open to environments where entrepreneurship and opportunities are scarce.
- Develop the right tools to connect the right people.
- Collaborate with organizations in underdeveloped countries.
As a young entrepreneur and creative person, I have suffered from the lack of opportunities that youth has to show what we are capable of. There is not much trust in emergent talents unless there is a recognized figure helping them. Another way to demonstrate abilities is to start a project with like-minded people and this, most of the times, can be blocked for those living in a non-entrepreneur environment or not knowing the right people.
When I was 19, I created an exposition to let creative people from any sector (gastronomy, photography, music, fashion, sculpture, etc.) show their talents. The only requirement to participate was that the applicants had never exhibited before and that they should be different. The result, a garden decorated by the artworks of around 20 new creators from 7 different fields. Then, The Gartener began.
Now, our project is developing into a platform, Sifer, where people like us can look for other creators or entrepreneurs who want to start an initiative or want to share a creative skill. No matter what age, social class or ethnic someone is; the only thing that will matter is their portfolio and ability to create together. The bigger the platform is, the more diverse and open it will be. Our goal is to create an app so everyone can use it very easily. Internet and social media can reach those places with few opportunities and remote work has shown us that online collaborations can still happen. Finally, partnering with organizations in underdeveloped countries will let us connect talents from countries with no facilities.
Innovative character
We live in a very connected world. Instagram, LinkedIn or even Tinder are used to connect with those we don't know yet for different purposes. Still, they all lack of one thing: giving the attention to the youth as creators and future builders. Instagram shares lifestyle, but lacks a professional aim; LinkedIn connects professionals, but creative profiles don't have a way to express themselves; and Tinder, we all know what it is for. This is the gap that Sifer wants to fill by the app.
The Gartener has one more value, the Creative Dinners: sharing knowledge, experience, and ideas in an offline space. Today, online is becoming extremely powerful, so our face-to-face interaction is devaluating. We place as much value on offline relationships as on online ones.
Finally, our main goal yet to come, the Studio: the 20m2 shared space that each creator can use for their own need (brain storming, painting, podcasting, crafting, etc.)
Starting from an app, passing through interactive spaces to creative containers, The Gartener aims to become the next creative hub where real -non-digital- experiences gain value.
