Description of the project
Summary
The Project Twinst Save the Sea was born to give a contribution in sustainable ecology & less waste policy. It consists in development & implementation of twin innovative designer shopping trolleys created to promote sustainability in retail chains & to involve the shoppers directly in points of sales in being more conscious & responsible of their choices, to show them that even their small decisions have influence on the environment & the future and that can help to realize a sustainability targets for better living together.
1. Twinst BAG: trolley without basket that invites people to bring to the store their own reusable bags. It is an innovative tool designed to make easy shopping with “old” bags to reduce usage of disposable ones according to "less waste" approach.
2. Twinst BASKET: trolley with basket made with recycled plastic, mainly from the sea cleaning, that promotes recovery of plastic waste giving it a second life.
To support the project Rabugino prepared a short movie available on the website www.seasavetrolley.com that explains the philosophy of Twinst. The access to the movie is offered also to the shoppers. Thanks to a QR code placed on special labels impasted on the trolley, the movie can be watched easily on smartphones.
The trolleys have been designed in Italy & developed in Poland. The project was focused on the creation of a comfortable and aesthetic tool to be used in point of sales by the shoppers while purchasing, combined with an important added value to involve both trolleys, shoppers and stores in supporting the circularity & sustainability concepts.
Moreover, the Twinst BAG has a version especially designed and adapted for disables in wheelchairs that enhances social inclusion equalising handicapped opportunities giving them an easier access to everyday shopping.
Key objectives for sustainability
Shopping trolleys are the tools serving to carry chosen goods in the point of sales. However, models Twinst are not simple utility items, they have a special mission: give a contribution in promoting sustainable ecology & less waste policy in retail chains. They work to involve the shoppers directly in points of sales in being more conscious & responsible of their choices to show them that even their small decisions have an influence on the environment & the future and that can help to realize sustainability targets for better living together.

2. Twinst BASKET: trolley with basket made with recycled plastic, mainly from the sea cleaning, that promotes recovery of plastic waste giving it a second life . For this purpose we have developed together with our suppliers a special compound made with PP recycled from the sea and we keep working to implement this material also in the production of other trolleys.

The purpose of this film is to explain to the shoppers its philosophy and to involve them to become a part of it through their choices. It aims to make them more conscious of their impact on the environment and enhance them to act for a better living together in more friendly and sustainable reality.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
In keeping with the Rabtrolley brand tradition, the twin models Twinst have been aiming to get a unique, innovative and aesthetic design. Actually, design is undoubtedly an important asset of the Company's products. Thanks to remarkable designs, the line of Rabtrolley products has gained recognition from customers & experts what has been expressed by different awards and distinctions received (e.g. prestigious Consumer's Laurel 2014 award in the Discovery of the Year category, the Golden Paragon 2013 - Polish Merchants' Award in the Innovation and Creativity category or 2nd place for MIDI 160 l trolley in the "Shop Ideen" category in the finals of the Top ProductHandel 2014 competition organised by Handels Journal, important magazine for FMCG sector in Germany).
During the development of the twin trolley Twinst, we have established following design targets to achieve:
-premium design (which characterises all Rabtrolley products)
-excellent manoeuvrability (ability to easily rotate & move the trolley in any directions)
-improved user comfort due to easy access to chosen goods (by optimising the dimensions) and reduced force required to push it (reduced weight of trolley)
-small size & compact nesting to optimise space occupation – perfect for more & more popular convenience stores/ proximity markets
-production with usage of high percentage of recycled plastics coming mainly from the sea cleaning, supporting of sustainability and lass-waste approach.
Thanks to the realization of mentioned goals Twinst combines important characteristics as innovative and functional design with a strong pressure on ecological aspects, enhancing the customer experience and offering to retail chain a good tool to furnish their stores and to support their environmental policy.
The project entered a competition for funds in Smart Growth Operational Programme and it was appreciated by the commission so it got subsidies in the category Design for entrepreneurs
Key objectives for inclusion
The trolleys are tools that are equipment of the stores helping people to carry their purchases in the point of sale. The target buyer of this product is a shop that wants to enhance customers experience choosing a good aesthetic trolley that supports the sustainability approach. As concerns the price of Twinsts, their prices are competitive and do not exceed prices of similar trolleys on the market, therefore they are accessible for retailers that wants to buy them and to promote the Save the Sea Projects supporting the usage of recycled plastics and “less waste” approach.
As concerns the inclusivity seen from its social integration aspect, the trolley can be used by everyone, regardless of gender, nationality or other criterion.
The product follows the concept of universal design. The trolleys, thanks to their reduced weight, smaller and excellent manoeuvrability (omnidirectionality) will be easier to use for people with
reduced physical strength (flexibility, intuitiveness, low physical effort, size and space, perception of equality). The trolleys have handles that can be in intensive colours (information perception) making them much more visible for the visually impaired than traditional monocromatic wire trolleys or baskets, which pose a tripping hazard if left out of place.
Moreover the model BAG in available in a version addapted for disables in wheelchairs to enhance social inclusion and equalise handicapped opportunities giving them an easier access to everyday shopping.
What's more, the mission of Save the Sea project is to enhance people to generate less plastic waste, choosing products of recycled & recyclable materials & to support circularity process, showing them a positive and tangible example how to give our support to improve the quality of life in a common world cleaner & more eco-friendly.
Results in relation to category
Shopping trolley is a product / tool that we use in our everyday life at the shopping time. It helps us to carry comfortably chosen goods at the point of sale. Trolleys Twinst are not a simple, aesthetic utility tool. They combine their practical and functional aspects with an important message – “you can save the sea, be eco-friendly, think about the environment, let’s give your contribution in saving the nature, bring your bag, use products made with recycled plastics”. Thanks to all characteristics as attractive design, sustainability and inclusivity described in points above, it meets all important requirements for entering a competition in the category "Products and life style".
How Citizens benefit
The citizens / shoppers benefiting from the project have received a comfortable and aesthetic tool carrying their purchases while shopping. Parallelly to its functional aspects, shoppers receive information about Save the Sea project, showing them that the basket is made with recycled plastic from the sea cleaning &promoting recovery of plastic waste and inviting them to bring their reusable bags instead of introducing disposable ones in the circulation. Also the version with basket has inside its basket special fins allowing to hang there a big reusable bag (less disposable bags = less plastic pollution & plastic waste). The shop owners / retail chains get an aesthetic and functional trolley that enhances customer experience and support their environmental policy.
The movie created to support the project has the educational aspect that shows the people the problem of plastic pollution in water basins (seas, oceans, lakes, rivers, ect) and their coasts and learn how we can reduce the plastic waste and be more "green" for better living together in more beautiful, sustainable and inclusive world.
Innovative character
As concerns the innovation of this project, aside from the development and launching of 2 innovative, environmentally friendly products (TWINST Basket and TWINST Bag) - both shopping trolleys trolleys, apart from innovative ecological elements, excellent manoeuvrability and improved comfort, are characterised by unique design (the innovative character of which is confirmed, inter alia, by the fact of obtaining protection of TWINST Basket and Bag utility models on the EU and US market - European designs (European designs No. 007022389-0005 and 007022389-0003, and American designs No. 29/730,098 and 29/730,099), we can highlight following aspects of its creativity:
1. development of technology for the producion of the TWINST Basket with an innovative polymer compound consisting of at least 60% of plastic derived from sea/ocean cleaning, with the remaining percentage made of material from recycled consumer material, enriched with a number of additives (glass fibre reinforcements, UV stabiliser, etc.).
2. projects and implementation of TWINST Bag trolley without a basket but with a special mission - reduce the usage of disposable plastic bags -thanks to encourage the shoppers to bring to the store their own reusable bags.
3. combining of an utensil for carrying shopping (trolley )with a special mission to become a tool to promote recycling and "less waste" philosophy for better living together (QR code with access to the movie).
