Active House Academy is an affordable educational approach with an inderdisciplinary education system for sustainable architecture and construction for all.
Active House is a hollistic approach for professionals and private consumers how to create and maintain sustainable (circular) buildings worldwide.
The approach teaches to balance simple and fast the core spheres of our life:

Summary
Active House Education System is a hollistic approach in education how to create healthy buildings for people and planet by the most simple and fast way anywhere in the world.
Fundamental activities of The System:
- Annual Active House Symposium since 2011
- Active House + Universities since 2014
- Annual Active House Label Awards since 2016
- Online and offline education for professionals and private consumers since 2017
- Active House Observation Tours since 2018
- Active House Days since 2018
- Active House Autumn School since 2019
Active House is a vision of buildings that create healthier and more comfortable lives for their occupants without negative impact on the climate – moving us towards a cleaner, healthier and safer world.
The Active House principles – Comfort, Energy, Environment – were defined in 2011, by a global group of likeminded visionary leaders, who strongly believed in a holistic approach to building design. Since then, the principles and specifications have been applied to numerous building types: single-family and multi-family residential, social housing, offices, schools, kindergartens and more.
Active Specifications describes requirements for only 9 objective parameters in 3 core spheres:
1. COMFORT (wellbeing)
- daylight
- thermal environment
- indoor air quality
- acoustics quality
2. ENERGY:
- energy demand
- primary energy perfomace
- energy supply
3. ENVIRONMENT:
- sustainable construction
- freshwater consumption
The Active House Radar shows the level of ambition of each of the three main Active House principles: Comfort, Energy, Environment.
Active House Academy teaches how to balance Active House parameters the best way for creating healthy buildings for people and planet.

Key objectives for sustainability
The main goal of the project is to share the most simple and fast way the knowledges how to create healthier and more comfortable buildings without negative impact on the climate – moving us towards a cleaner, healthier and safer world.
We pay a lot of attention to international education worldwide and local activities particularily. Local National Alliances follow general strategy and Active House principles but adapt the approach and education to local climate, economic, socio-cultural context. It helps successfully involved local society and solve the problems in specific country.
If summarize in terms of sustainability: social, economic. environment, we involve society to take care about their health and environment by architecture with economic reasonable ways.
Educated professionals in Europe and Worldwide, private consumers and homeowners, realised Active Houses are our main achievements today and ambition Strategy till 2050.
Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
Active House Academy is for professionals (architects, designers, engineers, builders and developers), private cunsumer, homeowners and citizens who build their own houses or make renovation. Education teaches design and evaluation of sustainable buildings in general but with simplified approach. Usually sustainable assessment is done only for big projects, but Active House aims to spread the knowledge on larger scale and sensibilize not only technitians, but all citizens. Teach them not only how to create, but also how to live and maitanace sustainable buildings.
Active House Academy is about new sustaianble habits for sustainable (circular) world.
Part of the educational program is also a session about architecture, good design and integration of and plants in the project. The value of beautiful design is one of the main goals:
functionality, tecnical performance and sustainability should be guaranted in an automated planning and construction process.
Discussing in details the sense of best Active House cases in the world we stimulate participants for their own creative efforts to create quality design aesthetics in their projects.
Annual Active House Label Awards helps participants to understand the aesthetics level of sustainable architecture.
Active House main advantage is that it is not limit personal creativity how to create sustainable buildings. We showed only core goals (wellbeing, energy, environment) and are finding best solutions and design how to achieve them for each project.
Key objectives for inclusion
The participants of the courses have a great participation by:
- practical tasks during the course
- observation tours and contact with local culture, architecture, cusine and of course people
- high-quality networking during annual Active House events
- presenting their projects at Active House Contests
- participants have potential for collaborating in future became Active House projects with international team and support
The great benefit of Active House Academy is that we have involved not only professinals but also private consumers, homeowners and citizens to educational process how to create, build and maintain sustainable buildings.
Results in relation to category
Active House Basic Course in Ukraine showed that it's possible to upgrade the professionals just for 2 days. Some results from Ukraine:
- 154 participants were graduated from 2-days test version of the Course.
- 13 projects were submitted to National Active House Projects Contest 2019.
- 4 Ukrainian projects were shortlisted at international Active House Label Awards in Toronto (Canada) 2019
- 1 Ukrainian project won the prize in Canada

Active House Autumn School in Italy for professionals helped us created uniq format of education when we united learning and relaxation for effective educational process. The 8-days course is held in picturesque Dolomites, Italian Alps of South Tyrol. The shedule included observation tours to Active House in Italy and ralxing day in the Mountains. The Diploma ceremony was held in medieval castle. All these activities allowed us to get acquainted participants not only with deep knowledges of sustainablilty but also with local culture, cusine and people. See rezults on photos. Active House Days in Ukraine 2018 gathered more 2000 people during 2 days in Kyiv: video (1.58 min)
Active House Days in Ukraine 2019 gave the opportunity to participants to present their projects to international jury and receive a feedback: video (2.31 min)
Active House Symposium is our general annual event from 2011 where we share our best practice, have high-quality networking, summarize results and present our strategy for next year.
Our Strategy "m2b" means "Million to Billion".
When we educate 1 million professionals thay could create 10 projects each in average.
It's our mission, which is possible to achive this ambition goal till 2050 by Active House Academy Online.
How Citizens benefit
The 20 % participants of Active House courses are private consumers, homeowners and citizens.
It's great when people are interested in how to live in sustainable (circular) houses and maintain them.
It helps us to create strong connection beween professionals and potential clients.
This approach facilitates collaboration, because the client fully understand all project goals (comfort, energy, environment) at the begining.
As a result we have quality and sustainable buildings fast and by economic reasonable way.
