Description of the project

Summary

Bio City - Family Farms introduces the community to farming as a recreational activity where families,

neighbors and friends can spend time together and reconnect with nature.

The organic farms in the surrounding the area of Munich City are at least 12 km from the center and easily accessible by car, but not on foot.  This project aims to bring farms closer to cities and give people the opportunity to experience the first steps of food production and the agricultural process first hand. Bio City Family Farms are areas where families and friends can spend time together and grow fruits and vegetables by themselves. This gives them the opportunity to reconnect with nature and be part of the agricultural process.

The project includes organic kiosks where the products of these farms are sold. Those who participated in the farming activity receive a discount as a reward for their efforts.  The farms will reinforce the relationship between man and nature and give the new generation the opportunity to be more involved and aware of agriculture. This project aims to improve biodiversity in the city and support small farms and promote local agriculture and small Farming related businesses. It also aims to involve the education sector and improve the environmental quality of neighborhoods.

Key objectives for sustainability

This Project aims to create a sustainable eco-City by considering the economic, environmental and social impact together as a resilient solution for a healthy City for the next generations.

Giving the chance to small farming and agriculture businesses would improve the quality of food and connect the society to the nature and the process of food production. These neighborhoods’ Farming plots will improve the environment and the air quality besides strengthen the eco-diversity inside the city. This Concept will bring families and friends communication through nature in a productive and healthy way. Besides bringing a serious solution for food production during crises like COVID-19.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

The Urban sprawl has taken a major role in the last decade. The gap between the residents who live in the cities and the rural areas is getting bigger. This concept suggests a new bonding between the rural areas and the city. It also brings more greenspace and beautiful natural landscape into the city. This will strengthen the eco-biodiversity in the cities and will encourage into the need of healthier and zero emissions design in the future.

Key objectives for inclusion

The idea of choosing a residential area came mainly from the main goals of the project. After COVID-19 people lost a lot of personal communication and became more isolated from the surrounding community and society. The shared farms inside the cities and between the residential complexes will strengthen the social relationships and the communication skills. The target people are families, children, students and local farmers. This design will provide a new bridge between the locals and those who are in the agriculture sector.

Innovative character

The green open spaces add more beauty and aesthetic to the city. The people use open spaces a recreational areas and social life spots. These neighborhoods farms would combine both purposes and provide an opportunity to improve the local economy by adding a new activity related to the agriculture. This will also improve the environmental quality of the residential areas and the whole city when the project grows widely.
