Description of the project

Summary

Ruta Inti is a social and cultural program for young people from all over the world, aimed at promoting cultural exchange among its participants, as well as enrichment in the environment and social context in which the expedition takes place. The axis of the project is the expedition itself, which each year will travel through different regions with a story that gives background and meaning to the idea outlined. Thus, we will begin a training trip in which the expedition members will have the opportunity to make contact with the social, cultural, historical and human reality of today's world.

Through different experiences, and through adventure and coexistence with people from other cultures, they will take a global and critical vision, a precursor to a new spirit of international cooperation and development. Likewise, we are no longer simply people passing through to take a more active role, collaborating with different groups, institutions and NGOs.

This is not a typical trip, nor do we want to be mere tourists. We seek that the participants acquire tools for their personal development. Thanks to the passion for discovering the world and the different branches of knowledge, curiosity is the true engine of our lives.

Key objectives for sustainability

Environmental sustainability is one of the axes around which this project revolves. By promoting a much closer form of coexistence with nature, actions are carried out that seek to care for the environment. Ruta Inti follows the maxim of "leaving the environment in a better state than we found it", and puts it into practice through concrete actions such as volunteering, compulsory use of biodegradable products by the expedition members, offering vegetarian and vegan diets on the menu. and the promotion of a more austere life, resulting in a clear reconnection with the environment and nature. However, aside from specific actions, the very nature of the project clearly stems from environmental concern, and entails not only a criticism of our current models of society, but also a firm and viable alternative.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Ruta Inti seeks to be a vital experience, a before and after in the lives of those who live it. It is an original and unique project of its kind, which mixes the approach to the environment, the interaction between strangers, volunteering and social causes and adventure. Thus, the young people who participate come to live true extreme situations, which become unique experiences and, in the end, a personal evolution. Learning and the relationship with other cultures, given the nature of the itinerant university enjoyed by the expedition, together with the loss of importance of the material in such an environment, leads to a disconnection from society, but also to a rethinking of values currently prevailing in our world.

Key objectives for inclusion

Inclusion is an extremely relevant factor for Ruta Inti. The organization pursues equal opportunities in access both as route workers and in organizational positions, which expedition after expedition always results in an overwhelming majority of women, who tend to be more interested in this initiative. Being such an open environment, each year we find an enormous variety of racial origins and sexualities, which make Ruta Inti a meeting place for all kinds of people. The economic factor is, without a doubt, the great challenge to undertake: Ruta Inti is a relatively expensive program, which can mean that someone who would otherwise come cannot afford it. It is something we are already working on, promoting scholarships with different public administrations and applying to initiatives like this one, which can help us reduce this inequality. However, there is still a long way to go. The method of access to Ruta Inti is an evaluation system that consists of carrying out a monographic work and an interview, which helps us to be as objective as possible. Thus, the offer of different diets, facilities for people with injuries and other measures show the great capacity for adaptability that the program has. The result? A heterogeneous and incredible group that changes from year to year. An unforgettable experience. A memory for life.

Innovative character

Ruta Inti is a unique experience that consists of 4 pillars:

  • Culture and training: Aimed at complementing training in the context of the expedition. This is not only about teaching the various cultural samples to the expedition members, but also about making them participate in them.
  • Expeditionary workshops: In which the participants, from their field of study, can develop their ideas in a creative way, involving their colleagues, and thus collaborating to enrich the experience of the expeditionaries.
  • Adventure and sport: In pursuit of a more active and beneficial lifestyle. In addition, we seek to know nature and the world around us.
  • Social work: During the expedition we collaborate with the places visited through different volunteer activities.

These three dimensions (sustainability, aesthetics, inclusion) are not only present and complement each other in the program, but also constitute the backbone of it. The program would not exist without the concept of sustainability, since it seeks to propose an environmental alternative to the model of society in which we live. To achieve this, there is no other way than to embrace the values of inclusion, which are reflected in each and every one of the decisions of the expedition. As a result, a program that for many is a turning point, from which to learn more than anywhere else. I mean, aesthetics.
