Description of the project

Summary

Groween is a modular structure full of plants that can be adapted to the needs of the city. The project lives thanks to each of us who can help to revive the urban areas. Nature has always been a great way to reconnect the human with his inner peace and the project is based on this principle. Groween helps the individual to find his own rhythm through the rhythm of the nature and, in a second phase, finding the one of his community.

Firstly, the citizen decides to purchase a small plant that can be found in various florists of the city. This plant is sold to the user in a specific vase. By taking care of it, the plant grows, creating a contact between nature and the user. When the plant is grown, the experience proceed by putting the single vase into the public installations that can be found around the city. Once public, the goal of the user it to help maintain his plant and the whole installation with the purpose of redevelop the city itself.

An addition to the physical experience there is an application that helps the user in all the steps and allows it to be part of a real green community. Thanks to Groween, we can rebuild a sense of belonging that we lost during the pandemic period, but we can do even more, we can give new importance to all those places that we couldn't live during the Covid-19 emergency.

Key objectives for sustainability

The main theme of Groween is nature, a symbol par excellence of environmental sustainability, but not only: through this experience the whole community takes care of green public spaces, strengthening awareness in the citizens on the issues of green, sustainability and importance of contact with nature.

The green oasis created by Groween fit into different urban environments, such as bars, museums and theaters: with its versatility it not only allows the redevelopment of different spaces but also helps the entire city to "breathe" again.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Groween is an experience made up of different moments, each of these develop around three main elements: a vase, a digital application and an urban installation.

Both vase and installation are designed from complementary forms: they can exist separately but they can only function together. The installation is characterized by a hexagonal alveolar shape that reflects concepts of cooperation and community characteristic of bees. The installation is colored blue not only to recall the theme of sociability, but also to bring out the orange color of the vase that is inserted. The latter is made of terracotta and decorated with patterns typical of the Faenza ceramic tradition. It's also characterized by two main elements: a QR-CODE to which each user is associated, and a handle, in order to suggest and facilitate the phase of the transport towards the installation.

The application, another fundamental element of the experience, finally allows you to view the profile associated with each vase, helping to the development of a green community.

Key objectives for inclusion

Groween is a green community accessible to anyone who wants to participate: individual citizens who want to regain their well-being, help their community, revive the city or simply want to leave their own contribution.

The experience requires the active participation of each user, making co-design one of the most important themes of the project: we start from the individual to take care of a common space.

The other key feature of Groween is its simplicity: a vase, a community and a collaboration between the users. All of this elements make the experience accessible to many at any time and in any place. The structure of Groween is modular allowing it to expand when and where you want. This aspect doesn't put limits on the number of users and the places where it could be placed.

Innovative character

Groween cannot live without one or the other dimensions mentioned before because they are strongly connected: without the community and co-design the project would be sterile and confined to the individual, without nature and environmental sustainability the project would remain another attempt to building a community without a real purpose and, finally, without the shape of the vase and the installation all this would remain purely online and would not turn into something concrete and tangible to refer to.
