Description of the project

Summary

Tortuga is a co-working space in which the craft production of games, design objects, books and other artifacts can be enhanced shared with passing visitors and young artists, artisans, youth workers and young entrepreneurs to build a network of knowledge workers in the craft sector 4.0, oriented to the future of the financial world [NFT - Blockchain].
The Tortuga project intends to develop on 4 lines of intervention, taking inspiration from a maritime narrative to identify the phases of reception, aggregation, experimental activity and return to citizenship:

The first area is a reception area: the landing. Arriving sailors can enjoy the work done on the island, or leave in custody the treasures of their adventures to explore the world for artisanal production;

The second is the tavern, a place to network, discover new routes, share past experiences and design future ones: an area set up with computers and digital equipment so as to be able to broadcast in the form of digital radio and web TV on streaming platforms activities, tutorials and present the products of the craft-artistic activity.

The third is the shipyard, the area dedicated to the shipwrights to arrange the ships, build new equipment and work on common projects. The creation activity is realized thanks to a suitably equipped environment and available to the artisans and artists involved.

The fourth is the lighthouse: the real treasure island. An area equipped with markers able to interact with virtual reality headsets and to allow a unique digital experience to visitors. An accessible VR room for comprehensive testing and experiences, both entertaining and educational.  There will be the possibility to broadcast virtual products live streaming and on digital radio managed by the tavern.

Key objectives for sustainability

Tortuga intends to promote circular economy processes based on the exchange of good practices, sharing of space and production of new goods resulting from the reuse of waste materials, reworked to make them aesthetically pleasing and at the same time functional in the case of miniatures or equipment usable in the context of role-playing games, board games and urban games, resulting in the furniture sector starting from the setting up of the space that will be followed by workshops and moments of shared creation for the recovery and reuse of abandoned furniture and/ or disused. The participatory character of these activities is the core of the sharing of new ways of thinking about objects to move away from the traditional linear economic model based on the scheme "extract, produce, use and throw".

To achieve this goal, it becomes essential to generate new relationships between artists, artisans and citizens within a theoretical and practical framework oriented by practices of ecological, economic and productive sustainability, with a particular attention to the involvement of a target of young people aged between 16 and 23 years to provide both a space for aggregation as a possible channel to start and/ or continue their growth path towards adulthood and the world of work craft and entrepreneurship.

We expect Tortuga to contribute to the neighborhood not only through workshops and co-working space but also through opportunities and services directed to all citizens through the organization of days dedicated to the collection of objects in disuse, to be disposed of and recycled, and the exhibition and sale of artistic productions.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

The design of the Tortuga project will be developed on maritime storytelling. Inspired by the city in which it wants to be realized, we have devised a narrative that talks about sea trips and sailors, taking inspiration and modernizing the maritime culture of the place.

Tortuga will be a sharing space starting from its construction, will be activated processes of sharing and exchange of ideas from the beginning.

The design of the location will be realized with maritime elements integrated with modern design elements, made to measure by recycling artisans through workshops dedicated to the community through a call to action. This process of community involvement will help the future inhabitants of space feel the nearest place and make them feel more involved and free to use it.

Digital design will also be realized through a workshop that will also allow those who are not a designer to express their opinion, trying to build a common identity and that can represent the majority of people who will attend Tortuga. During the process of realization of the digital identity will be made available to professional figures who will facilitate the process of conception and finalizing the content of the workshop in a final paper

Key objectives for inclusion

In the implementation phase of the project, there will be a call to action addressed to citizens for the involvement of children, adolescents, young adults and adults within the process of designing and creating furniture and furnishings that can contribute to the artistic-aesthetic identity of the Tortuga space.

In the beginning, Tortuga, will be set up only with instruments and furniture functional to the craft of sculpture, painting and modelling so as to constitute an enabling environment where the participants involved can take advantage of tools and devices difficult to find and/ or expensive. These activities will be conducted and managed by Youth Workers, masters of the craft employed as facilitators of the creative process of the groups engaged in construction.

Following the initial phase of implementation, once created a cozy, aesthetically appealing and representative of the people who attend it, Workshops dedicated to different age groups will be organized to continue the work of creation accompanied by awareness of the issues of the circular economy. In support of inclusion and accessibility, will be provided in the space of the time slots where anyone, upon reservation, can use technical equipment with the supervision of Tortuga facilitators for the reuse of waste material and creation.

Innovative character

The dimensions of aesthetics, inclusion and sustainability are linked together by a deep-rooted knowledge of the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda (ONU) and consolidated intervention tools tested over the years within Tou.Play. All youth workers involved in the management and facilitation of the spaces of Tortuga are trained and aware of the issues highlighted by the objectives on gender equality, decent work and economic growth, enterprise innovation and infrastructure, reducing inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production and combating climate change.

This theoretical and experiential system therefore contributes to the construction of a receptive space of needs and desires not only of individual citizens but also of citizenship and the city in a wider perspective. In addition, in conjunction with "the European Youth Year 2022", attention will be paid to the condition of adolescents and young adults, taking as a reference the "Youth Goals" (EU), with a focus on creating a space and participation for all, contributing to an inclusive society at the local level.

These assumptions are supported by youth working practices, thus making design, craftsmanship and figurative art a means through which to support the creation of the identity of the young people involved and a space in which to feel represented and belonging to a community.
