Description of the project

Summary

Jäbät & Tunteet is a community and a mixed-media platform, which is normalizing vulnerability and creates more space for different shapes of masculinities, so we could all be ourselves and well in the society. This community and emotion media works under the head community which is Marmor. Marmor comes from the idea of the strong stone type where black and white are combined in a way that makes society stronger. Goal is to create bridges and build a diverse, equal and sustainable Finland and Europe by building communities that create a future-orientated, fair and hopeful environment to live in, for all of us.

Key objectives for sustainability

We are impacting the wellbeing of people and society through normalizing vulnerability and showing emotions. We are building diversity and equality to the society by creating change through our contents where the patriarcal way of thinking is dismantled in the process. We have the ability to do that because of our various ethnicities and origins in our team. We also have a wide range of depth knowledge in diversity, equality and inclusion topics.

We are creating healthy ways of being a man for the people that are identified as man. We are making space for being a man and masculine and at the same time vulnerable. This creates the possibility to set ourselves off from the harsh, conservative and oppressive masculinity which is doing harm for all of us, but especially for men. It is time to build, regenerate and update the model of a modern man. This will affect families, companies, education and everything in our society.

We can measure this by researching the mental health of youngsters and communities in Finland, which due to statistics are right now the worst in history and really concerning. That is why we are creating content first in a digital safeplace, which we have already created and later in communities, live in real life. If we can build these emotional channels for people in a digital environment and then support them in real life we have a possibility to create wellbeing for people, for free. The affection will be shown during the next decades that are extremely important years also for the planet. We are mainstreaming change from the level of individuals to the level of community. Eventually they will be adults and will be passed to their children.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Project has given us a platform for our own thoughts and feelings. One of the parts and most resonating one has been the visual identity and feeling that we have succeeded to create through art, poetry, researches and designing the foundings and realizations into a universally understandable shape. We have used literature, art, participating, community serving and interactivity as a tool to meet these goals. So I would say we have built a platform for channeling your emotions whether it is talking, listening, writing, drawning, participating or just living in the digital safepace with us and our stories that creates the atmosphere where we can safely be ourselves and nothing more.

We are creating channels for emotional expression that is built with inviting aesthetics and an emotionally identifying environment that is felt within our content in the community and goes beyond just the visual recognition but is more likely felt, seen and felt because of the variety and cultural sensitivity of our team. That is definitely one thing we can lead the way at least in Finland and have already started to do that with our stories and conversations that are the first of its kind and raising the level of the consciousness of the community. If we can multiply this kind of communities, projects, conversations and contents we are on the right path to something sustainable.

Key objectives for inclusion

Our goal in inclusivity is to take that into consideration in every part of our work. Our goal is that everyone is included and equal, nothing less. We have a very wide range of diversity in our team. That is one of our core values and the goal for us is to help to progress inclusivity in every topic and field we can. We are striving for equality in our work and similar possibilities for every one is what we are aiming for ambitionally and determined.

Public participation is a natural part of our project and also one of our core values through the value of transparency. All of our content is free and free for everyone to be part of now first in digital but later on real life. We are encouraging our community to be involved in our actions. The goal here is to be a digital safe place for all. That also brings engagement to our community which is designed in communities for communities. We started this endeavor from our weekly meetings on Tuesdays where we can share our thoughts and feelings in a safe room. From then we have created a new room for men and people who identify as man. We created a new room, where roles are left to the doorway and where it is easier to be ourselves even in the lobby. And we welcome all to this room, which will spread to the peers of people joining these conversations for an equal and diverse world, where we speak to understand each other more and listen with empathy. A room that is made locally but the idea is applicable globally. There is now space for vulnerability and ability to cry in front of other guys, for the first time without competition. The room is open digitally already, it is accessible for everyone, it is affordable because it is free. And the goal is to mainstream this for everyone in the whole wide world.
How do we get there? We don’t know yet, but we are building it already, being okay without being complete.

Results in relation to category

Regaining a sense of belonging is the category we are applying for. We have created a digital safeplace for ourselves but also people we meet in real life. So we have already concreatically created a space for brown and black youth and guys in Finland, but also for a lot of other Finns regardless of gender, skin color or sexuality that feel safe in our communities. We are also fighting externality and social exclusion as a part of our main theme of the year which is healing masculinities. We are healing ourselves and then each other by providing concretically help for the people in our community. We are concentrating also in loneliness and creating concepts where we can come together and challenge the culture of not chosen solitude. The goal is to create a nationwide campaign to fight these teams.

We can measure these once again with numbers but more important for us is to measure with communital designed approach. In community design, the problem-finding happens in a more collective way, as well as setting the context of what success means. Community design requires meaningful success metrics. Not vanity metrics, like the number of people who saw your Instagram post, but meaningful metrics like how many people's behavior changed, and how many folks are thinking about their spheres of impact.

They point out that equity doesn't mean everyone makes the decision, but it does mean that everyone's input equitably informs the whole process.

Numbers you can find from our media card which is attached in the documents. We have evidence of creating a community in a digital environment. We have helped people, that we know from the messages we are getting and also the fact that people have been coming to us to tell that in real life. Also our parents have got help from the conversations as also our peers and closest friends and people around that have opened up or told us that they started their own process of healing, therapy etc.

How Citizens benefit

We are designing our content and actions that come from the community. As above is stated the project started from our lives when we got together every tuesday for peer support. Everything in our project is coming from there, and there we go through stuff that happens in our daily life so basically everything is coming from the stuff and situations that are happening in our environment and life, in the communities. We also involve people in our process by asking questions from our peers, audience in digital channels and take every comment into consideration when planning something to happen within our project.

Benefits that we are experiencing form that are of course inevitable because that only adds to our cultural sensitivity and  inclusivity, equity and diversity as well as give us a pulse of what is happening in the society and what needs to be discussed about. We are experiencing benefits of also going to speak in public to schools and events where we meet people that are on the field daily, working with our youth and know what are the main issues they are struggling with. From that we can gain insight that only the environment has where the everyday life of the youth is happening. This we can address then in our content that we mainstream for the youth in for example in TikTok, but also for older people in the channels they choose to consume such as Youtube, Podcast audio streaming, Instagram and so on. We can mainstream and multiply the innovative and diverse perspective in a shape that is easy to enjoy in whatever channel fits you. This input and insight comes from the community and goes back to the community through individuals that are willing to be vulnerable in public and give their stories for greater common good, for change and that is building conviction and hope for change. From individual to collective. The vision is to find and create a relationship between individuality and community by waking the individuals potential with our community.

Innovative character

We are experiencing that our project it’s a new way of creating belongingness in this field. Our cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, equity and diversity as well as give us a pulse of what is happening in the society and what needs to be discussed about. We are experiencing benefits of also going to speak in public to schools and events where we meet people that are on the field daily, working with our youth and know what are the main issues they are struggling with. From that we can gain insight that only the environment has where the everyday life of the youth is happening. This is something new and the new ways of creating digital safe spaces and conversations that are interactive is definitely something innovative. When the world will open fully again we will also see a lot of events happening around these topics. We are also planning a lot of support tools for our mission that there aren’t yet in the field of mainstream practices. We can be interactive and create a form of media that addresses the topics needed and we can bring our value based production to be the part of the content. This input and insight comes from the community and goes back to the community through individuals that are willing to be vulnerable in public and give their stories for greater common good, for change and that is building conviction and hope for change. From individual to collective. The vision is to find and create a relationship between individuality and community by waking the individuals potential with our community. That is why everyone is needed and everyone can participate.

Learning transferred to other parties

We have created a plan for emotional education called “Emotion-Action plan” which has been piloted in a speech event with the Mental Health organization MIELI RY in Finland in an event full of professionals of the social field and people who work with the youth and it got an extremely warm welcome. That is why we are crystallizing the concept and starting to tour schools and companies in Finland.

So this is a very effective way to transfer the conversations, realizations and learnings of this project to the school and work world and mainstreaming the vulnerability, showing and handling emotions and understanding diversity form a very wide perspective. We can get our message to go throughout our whole country in a few years. In school and education but also in business, sports and other fields.

This methodology is founded through our ability to see the world through the lens of inclusivity and our experiences we have faced and now also ready to share with the world on our journey to a better world. We dream and we believe we can change things in Finland and we see it already happening gradually. We are going to need professionals to finesse the concept for our experience-based specialism. That is why we are collaborating with mental health organization MIELI RY, to gain professional specialists to support our message as well as we need support financially to be able to mainstream our mission in Finland and then maybe scale it elsewhere.
