Description of the project

Summary

Our project has the goal to create new common areas inside the major European cities’ squares built from the overlapping and placement side by side of 60cmx60cm cubic wooded frames.

This idea imagines that by placing these cubic modules inside the squares in order to built parallelepipeds 3 meters high and 9 meters wide. In these spaces flowerpots containing the typical vegetation of the city’s microclimate will be placed. The vegetal species will be followed by a brief description of their names and qualities.

These places will be open all day long and will represent new realities in which social relationships, entrenched in these years of difficult struggle to Covid-19, will bloom again.

They will also be urban outposts for the battle against climate change, a theme that has afflicted the world’s population for almost 20 years and in the last five years has become the principal topic of the youth movements’ wars and the vehicle of emancipation for the new generations.

The virtue of these new places of being easily replicable and totally sustainable because the cubic modules can be simply produced and placed in different areas. Moreover, the emission of CO2 caused by the wood’s processing and the transport, is completely abolished by the production of oxygen from the chlorophyllin photosynthesis during the day.

Key objectives for sustainability

Our concept wants to open a new experience where you can be in strict relation with nature. In our intentions this can be a starting point for the creation of a new awareness toward the respect of the ecosystems that surround us in order to live in a cleaner and cozier world.

These structures make possible people’s full immersion inside the process of oxygen production in order to teach how also a little and simple act, such as taking care of a small plant, can have some fundamental outcomes in the quality life’s improvement of the city we live in.

These spaces have the aim to help people rediscover the power of nature, a nature that in the last years has been dominated by the laws of an uncontrolled consumerism even from the point of view of infrastructures’ construction. In this way we suggest a new attitude that highlights the environment and the sustainability before the economic interests imposed by the society in which we live in. Moreover, we would like to pass on to the new generations the importance of being part of the change in order to leave the world a little better than we found it.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Our project is based on the idea that, sometimes, an easy act can revive in us the desire of doing something great.

In this case the construction of a simple cube can bring closer a large number of people making them think about a sensitive topic like the climate change.

Respecting this opinion, we thought about a space that won’t affect excessively the surrounding city contest but at the same time create a suggestive landscape composed of flowers and plants that hide a treasure easily approachable to everyone, which each of us need to take care of.

The main character of this structure is wood, that bring the colors of nature into the city and make even more enjoyable spending time in the squares.

The presence of stones wants to be a solid base and compensate the lightness of the wooden chassis. This duality also remembers us that even more utopistic ideas can be realized.

Key objectives for inclusion

These places want to be spaces where everyone can express their own qualities and where diversity becomes uniqueness and a source of beauty. Here the community comes together to fight a common enemy; each one in fact, with his own abilities, is able to fight in a unique and special way.

For this reason, the structure has been designed without any architectural barriers making it accessible to everyone, disabled and elderly people too; additionally, the modular structure can be a leisure area for children in which fun and environmental sensitivity are blend together through workshops and activities capable of involving all ages groups.

One of the highlights of the structure is that can be perceived through the five senses: the different workshop activities focus on sensory education with the aim to give the same importance to the sensation perceived through the organs. Some examples: blindfolded paths to dive into the sounds and scents of nature, moments in which you can get your hands dirty while making contact with soil and plants; laboratories where you can learn about the ecosystem in which you live, discovering and classifying the species that characterize your habitat.

Innovative character

In these places, the three main points of the new European Bauhaus merge together blending their boundaries.

Therefore, the installation aesthetic is based on the greenery there and it is proportional to the citizens’ effort.

We associated the concept of sustainability to a meeting place where we can deal with the theme of climate change and preservation of the environment.

Secondly, we wanted to make our city more welcoming by introducing a new type of beauty based on nature, knowledge and respect.

Its greenery also has a positive impact on the human psyche. That is why different generations can discover the infinite revolutionary paths to follow to save our planet.
