Description of the project

Summary

With our project we intend to be a fundamental support for those older people who voluntarily or not live alone in their homes, providing a series of preventive services and activities that cover the following dimensions of the person: physical, social, cognitive and affective/emotional, allowing them stay in your home as long as possible and in the best possible conditions. We cannot stop the aging of the inhabitants of our town hall, but we can provide the best possible care, seeking a better quality of life for those who are committed to staying at home as long as possible. Within this service, we proposed permanent actions and specific activities within the framework of an active and healthy aging program. 1. Permanent services: individualized care at home (feeding control, promotion of healthy habits, medication control, hygiene and individual cognitive stimulation and psychomotricity activities). Accompaniment to medical consultations or to carry out administrative procedures. Information service. Emotional Support Service and Connection Space: we put at your disposal computers and a tablet so that you can use them in whatever you need and above all so that you are in contact with your family and friends. 2. Active and healthy aging program: With this program we carry out training and information workshops focused on improving physical and cognitive conditions to maintain and maximize the autonomy of the elderly. At the same time, older adults were encouraged and socialized through participation in group activities. The activities carried out throughout the year were: Cognitive stimulation, occupational therapy workshop, digital literacy, workshop/Reading Club and informative workshops and other recreational activities that contribute to the well-being and dynamism of the participants.

Key objectives for sustainability

Our main strategy is social responsibility with our municipality, so we use the scarce resources of our area at all times and encourage the population to make use of them. Thus, for trips we use the taxi services of two neighbours, for purchases the only store in our town hall and for celebrations and revitalization activities we resort to the only restaurant service in the area, making them viable and avoiding their total disappearance and helping to consolidate the few jobs we have. In relation to the people with whom we work, we promote their well-being and we seek that the following generations see our municipality as an attractive place to live and with a sustainable offer of services that result in their quality of life.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

The Anel Women's Association was born on October 7, 1995 in San Xoán de Río, and from the beginning it fought for the integral development of the women of the City Council. The Association's essential goal is the socioeconomic and cultural promotion of women, seeking real equality in all areas. From the beginning we did not worry about giving training to our associates so that they could get a paid job that would make them economically independent and equal in opportunities to their male colleagues. In recent years our services and activities have been evolving, adapting to the times in which we live and to the age and personal situations of our members and we have extended our services to the entire population. We have 26 years of experience in continuing care for women and the elderly.

Key objectives for inclusion

As we have mentioned before, we are in a very old municipality, with little population and basic services. In this context, we wanted to give the entire elderly population the opportunity to have care services just as if they lived in a city. In addition, we made special emphasis on women, who were always the most discriminated against and were always relegated to the domestic sphere. With these services and activities we promote equality and accessibility to services that previously did not exist in this area.

Results in relation to category

We have improved the situation of the elderly in our municipality, especially those who live alone or are carers of dependent people, just as we have promoted the care of their physical and mental health, promoting healthy habits, offering educational, cultural and that has helped them increase their well-being.

The care they received has encouraged them to lead a healthier life in aspects such as medication control, nutrition, hygiene, the regular practice of physical exercise and positive social relationships.

How Citizens benefit

We provide comprehensive and people-centered care, taking into account the characteristics and personal situation, we have worked individually with each user of the service, adapting our actions to their needs and modifying them as participation in the project progressed.

Innovative character

This project was carried out in one of the oldest municipalities in Europe and one that has suffered the most population loss in recent years. Because of this, services and resources have dwindled over the years, leaving our neighbors with no services or resources to turn to. With our project they had some services and activities that improved the quality of life of the people who live in our municipality. We start from the concept of proximity as a fundamental feature of our intervention, focusing on decentralized activities close to people and their daily contexts, since that is where the different needs that people have are produced. Thus, the individual actions will be carried out at the homes of the participants or at the Association's facilities. Group activities in the social center. We provide comprehensive and people-centered care, taking into account the characteristics and personal situation, we work individually with each user of the service. A multi-method methodology will be used in group activities.

Learning transferred to other parties

We have developed an Association model that produces a positive impact in our municipality and that can be extrapolated to other municipalities, both in our country and in others, that have our same characteristics: aging population, depopulation of the rural world, very large territories with isolated populations , scarcity of resources and services in the areas to work... By using an individualized methodology focused on the needs of each person, this project is valid to carry out in any region with our same characteristics.
