Description of the project

Summary

Yecla [C]reacción 2021 event is an action of art and ephemeral architecture which intends to vindicate yeclan nature. An in-person urban piece of art, rooted in Yecla and its people and furthermore represents its institutions, furniture commerce and its artist. This institutional artistic action arose in the framework of the annual Feria del Mueble hold steadily in Yecla by the last 50 years, but the global turnaround transformed the artistic concept into a participatory action in the fight against Covid, a reconstruction and healing of the well-being and collective identity in order to move forward through the pandemic. Yecla [C]reación 2011 event is a vindication of its people, industry and commerce, where its reaction capacity is shown, rebuilding the identity and psychology of the yeclan people against the setbacks.

The art and ephemeral architecture project is formed by 6 facilities placed in the city of Yecla which settle almost 11.500 m2 of local soil. Six architectures like undressed houses which accommodate the artistic samples of yeclan artists, compounded by pictures, illustrations, photos, sculpture, embroidery or live performances during the event. The totality of the action and artistic sample is constructed starting at a common concept, COVID-19 health crisis and the resilience and recovery capacity of the people after the first moments of the worldwide pandemic.

Key objectives for sustainability

The validity, the lifetime of the project, is about five days. The materials used in order to expand to the highest its intervention, be more tectonic and bigger in its urban pretensions – five urban spaces in different city places-, originated under the premises of being supported in structures, artifacts and machinery, all in hire regimen, and the rest of the materials would be in its vast majority waste or reused from different furniture industries from Yecla. These two fronts for obtaining and collecting raw material, permitted, being radical in its approach and result, to arrange all that we could need and, in turn, to its materials, machinery and objects to being recognised by local people.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

It was the first festival of ephemeral architecture which supported art pieces made during the pandemic by yeclan artists. It has to be five spaces that we called “undressed houses” because every one of these spaces defined different belonging sentiments that connected the yeclans with their history and furniture industry. This architectures of “undressed houses” were build with the minimum, with concepts through everyday objects that every yeclan would recognises tradition through historical furniture jobs, industry through the forklifts raising slowly bags full of masks made during the pandemic, and so on. The aesthetics were the result of adding physical minimums in order to the subconscious, memory and art went the extra mile.

Key objectives for inclusion

The five houses, urban in nature, melt with the public space with fluency. The message through the exposed every day and art objects are, above the wooden floorings that mark out the area of the five houses, a form of moving this art and creation concepts closer to everyone, always making these spaces accessible for all, adapted to the current regulations, but surpassing that permeability through urban actions and expositions at human scale 1/1. The exposed art, as well as the pedestrian who enjoyed it, had a major opportunity participating in the building experience, open to all people without considering their age, formation or physical possibilities.

Results in relation to category

This action is carried out replacing the “Feria del Mueble de Yecla” that, after more than 50 years, had being celebrated without interruptions. This festival is a cry to the yeclan society, its furniture industry and its artists, who remain alive and had renewed energy in order to move from this international crisis, that the COVID has been.

How Citizens benefit

The whole intervention is an urban action that supports yeclan artists, associations and individual artists, who beside the furniture industry, collaborate in the construction of the project, united for the proudly reconstruction of this society of Yecla, its history, its furniture industry, creative industry and its future.

Physical or other transformations

Innovative character

We think that these urban actions, permeable, rebuild the monotony of the commercial process like the “Feria” and the “Mueble de Yecla” festival that were typical years by. This interventions permeabilise these commercial actions like the higher and more potent of the marketing campaigns.

Furthermore, hiring regimen of everything that is used in the constructive effort make this a maximum unfolding for a minimum time.

Learning transferred to other parties

The context of an urban festival, supported in the production of local artist as part or constructive detail of the architecture, makes this result recognizable by the yeclan population, being it direct and constructive for a belonging sentiment and collective memory. It is an infallible mean.

Furthermore, the constructive details supported by the hiring regimen make possible that the tools that the market can provide in this moment are going to be used, even being in a changeling time towards the political or economic atmosphere.
