Project Description

SuperSolferino The Beauty Near Us starts during the pandemic lockdown days, when we had to stay home or could only wander nearby it, and we were isolated from our friends and families

In those days I felt like my eyes became bigger and were able to see beauty in simple ordinary landscapes, streets, buildings.

Description of the project

Summary

SuperSolferino The Beauty Near Us starts during the pandemic lockdown days, when we had to stay home and could only walk nearby our homes, and were isolated from our friends and families

In those days I felt like my eyes became bigger and were able to see beauty in simple ordinary landscapes, streets, buildings.

Struggling to overcome such difficult days, I gave my home a new name and a logo as an imaginary place potentially open to the sharing of creative contents concerning lockdown days: SuperSolferino.

The place I live is a peripheral area of the city of Trieste.

The buildings were builded in the Fifties thanks to the Reconstruction Funds. Thus, in this specific historical moment, it is interesting to draw our attention to those peripheral areas, and start from the awareness of their potential and beauty, to imagine a new urban regeneration. During the lockdown days, spending so much time nearby our homes has showed the beauty of simple landscapes and peripheral areas and the potential of remote working even in terms of sustainability.

My project consists in the creation of a immaterial new identity for the place I live in: Solferino Street in the peripheral area of Trieste. I named it SuperSolferino, and created a new logo symbolizing the woodland and sea view that surround that peripheral area.

Secondly, the project consists of a collection of photos of the surroundings taken during my lockdown days and of a book sharing the experience of isolation of those days, combined with the growing awareness of simple beauty and potential of peripheral areas, open to be enriched by the photos and experience of other people living in my city.

Key objectives for sustainability

Objectives in terms of sustainability come from a new awareness of the potential of renovating peripheral areas and giving them new attention, instead of building new houses and consuming new sole.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

The project aims at fostering awareness about the importance of caring for the simple beauty of peripheral areas. Their potential for new ways of living more sustainable even in terms of mobility

Paying attention to details in our nearest environment shows that there is a simple beauty to be discovered in the peripheral popular areas of our cities, that could be enhanced with more participation and investments

Key objectives for inclusion

The creation of a new idea for representing peripheral areas has a great potential in terms of citizen engagement and aims at sharing with other people emotions and thought related to the pandemic.I believe that SuperSolferino can be a place to overcome related difficulties faced in these years and enhance the potential of new local cooperation.

Results in relation to category

Impact and results are achieved in terms of awareness and sharing of creative contents, through the creative photo book and logo of SuperSolferino space.

How Citizens benefit

the benefit derived is the growing awareness of the potential of peripheral areas

civil society was involved in the multidisciplinary working group that worked on the creation of SuperSolferino logo and photo book, that will be the vehicle for sharing experiences related to peripheral urban areas and their beauty.

Physical or other transformations

It refers to other types of transformations (soft investment)

Innovative character

innovative character derives from the starting point of the project: simple photos taken during the pandemic with the aim of sharing experiences of spending more time in the peripheral areas of cities and looking at them in their simple beauty and potential

Learning transferred to other parties

The project's results can be transferred to other contexts both in Italy and in other countries

As far as Italy is concerned, the project has great potential because the apartment buildings of the peripheral area in which the project was developed is part of a bigger project that was developed in many italian cities during the Fifties and Sixties: the project INA CASA.

So, it could be possibile to compare different areas and exchange experiences.

for example in an other region (Emilia Romagna), the same project was carried out in Ravenna: https://bbcc.ibc.regione.emilia-romagna.it/pater/loadcard.do?id_card=152091

or in Mestre (Veneto)

here is an interesting contribution on the project INA casa and its potential

in the Trieste INA casa project, also important architects were involved
