Dream In Colour

Basic information

Project Title

Dream In Colour

Category

Prioritising the places and people that need it the most

Project Description

‘Dream in colour’ is about the merging of Afropeanism & Pan-africanism which are two subjects Joseph and I are both very passionate about. What we wanted to create was an experience not only through the merging of our crafts (AR design, poetry, videography, photography), but also our similar cultures, worldviews and origins.

Our goal with this project is to celebrate, spread awareness and educate upon both movements with an innovative design as our foundation, in hopes of leaving an impact.

Description of the project

Summary

The concept behind creating an AR canvas with the subject of Afro-European and Pan-Africanism came about because of the lack of conversation within our communities dedicated to the subjects at hand. Many individuals of distinct background still believe that they have to choose between their European or African identity, unaware that in reality, they are a beautiful blend of both, like black pioneers such as photojournalist Kwame Brathwaite and Congolese based photographer Ambroise Ngaimoko who instead, dedicated their career to personify their heritages. In early 2020, new ideas have emerged in terms of how art may be experienced and displayed, giving the opportunity for voices who would normally be unheard and left to the side of important conversations to leave as much as an impact as those who had done before. In conclusion, our message, which we believe to be of great importance, should resonate within that newly formed space including AR/VR, NFT, and the Metaverse, to reach as many people as possible beyond physical limitations and understanding.

Key objectives for sustainability

Since our project is an AR program, it surpasses physical limitations in ways one may experience art & technology.Where in a traditional approach, it would have required craftsmanship, labor and transportation for our message to reach the entire world, within a click, everyone with access to our project may view the canvas and explore all it has to offer. Key objectives to our concept are bridging the gap between art & tech, creating digital art through AR programming and as a result, introducing a sustainable way of consuming art of today. Due to the ability of choosing the size of the AR canvas when pivoting with your fingers, it suggests an unharmful way of making use of one's physical surroundings on a digital space. In conclusion, we are providing a balance of accessibility without the need of manipulating our environment and building a new understanding of consumption within the lens of sustainability.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

With our project, we were able to convey a variety of disciplines of the physical world, while keeping its core value and influence. This included creative writing, photography, videography, and anything of the visual art space from drawing to 3D design. This comes at great interest for us because we wanted to prove that the experience we have built was not limited to just visual art and it could keep its appeal when presented on a digital canvas complimenting the artwork. Where our project draws in with aesthetic is by presentation, the quality as much as the variety of the different art discipline displayed and the use of video footage that can be created to showcase a boarder understanding of how the canvas may be experienced. It is to be said that for our next version, we are planning to draw more emphasis on videography and sound to implement into what we believe to be a high quality work of art.

Key objectives for inclusion

Where our project suggest the importance of inclusion is through our main theme and the many references behind it. This is because the subject at hand relates to a distinct group of people often neglected for their uniqueness and true beauty that does not comply with western standards. A lot of times, due to a clear divide in cultures, children of the diaspora are forced to choose between their European or African identity without recognising they are mixture of both and the best of both worlds. Moreover, with its core focus on sustainability and facilitating art production to a great mass of artists who may not have the funding and support to afford a physical canvas of a great sizing, while having to worry about the cost of transportation and meeting different deadlines for gallery appearances, this project resolves it all. Not only can the AR artwork be access anywhere across the world however, it can accessed an unlimited amount of times at the same time. This would give the opportunity for minorities to be displayed occasions at once and therefore, meet the goal of reaching as many people as possible with this important message. To conclude this, as much as the visual experience as the back story of the project demands inclusion from the invited of local artists to be an add-on to the experience to the community in discussion part of Europe, yet still underrepresented.

Innovative character

Environmental sustainability, aesthetic and inclusion are very important key objectives that all come across the digital experience we've created. This is because we were able to create accessibility beyond physical limitations which would in normal circumstances demands a great amount of craftsmanship, labor and transportation resulting to further environmental damage. Moreover, the project itself includes a number of art disciplines to prove the possibility of conveying anything into aesthetically pleasing work of art. The canvas is not limited to a specific size of the overall experience and may be adjusted to the viewer's liking which meets a range of quality standards. In addition, throughout the main theme mentioning the influence Afro-centricism, but also the lack of representation within Europe, the inclusion of distinct group of people is prioritised, while making sure that a fair use is not only facilitated, but also made affordable to mainly minorities. In conclusion, the key objectives is what makes the project to its entirety and will be used to the further development of the experience.
