Basic information

Project Title

POWERbänk

Full project title

POWERbänk – EV Charging Service

Category

Prioritising the places and people that need it the most

Project Description

In the coming years, the lack of public charging stations will become increasingly noticeable. Therefore, we want to create an alternative solution for people who cannot charge at home in order to contribute to the sustainable mobility shift.

Our concept is that e-car pilots can order a battery charge via app when needed. We then deliver a mobile battery pack to the parking location of the e-car, connect it to the vehicle and pick it up again after the charging process has been completed.

Description of the project

Summary

In the coming years, the lack of public charging stations will become increasingly noticeable. Therefore, we want to create an alternative solution for people who cannot charge at home in order to contribute to the sustainable mobility shift.
Our concept is that e-car pilots can order a battery charge via app when needed. We then deliver a mobile battery pack to the parking location of the e-mobile, connect it to the vehicle and pick it up again after the charging process has been completed.

Key objectives for sustainability

The effort for customers becomes even less, as customers only indicate when the vehicle should be recharged, but not exactly when the delivery and charging takes place, we can better plan, combine and thus avoid multiple trips to the same area.

In this way, we always deliver to several customer vehicles at once and plan the most sensible route for them. As the number of users increases, this system will simplify and we will be able to deliver to an entire block or street with one of our electric delivery vehicles. This increases efficiency and sustainability.

This charging service will greatly reduce traffic in urban areas, as users will no longer have to drive to different charging points to find a free charging spot. Furthermore, the vehicles do not have to be re-parked after the maximum parking time of usually a few hours or when they are fully charged (whichever comes first), creating even more traffic.
We reduce this traffic because we charge the vehicles at the actual parking location, which can be on private property in addition to public space, as long as it is freely accessible. Because not every domestic parking space automatically has the possibility for a fixed charging possibility with a wallbox or a standard wall plug.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

The POWERbänk battery packs have some special features.
Besides the core aspect of charging urban vehicles, they should also fit well into the general cityscape.
Therefore, the battery packs were designed in such a way that they can also be used as a seat for passers-by during the charging process.
In addition to the seating option, they offer passersby the opportunity to charge their mobile devices at a 5V USB socket. This consumes so little compared to the amount of charging for an electric vehicle that this loss is negligible. Therefore, we can also offer this free of charge.
In addition, we have planned to also offer a wifi hotspot if needed, at relevant locations. To monitor the charging process and the location, we have anyway integrated a permanent data connection in the box.
Basically, the packs are modular, so we can offer both 15kwh or 30kwh capacity. One module always has to provide the charging connection. It contains the charging cable, the charging control as well as the USB and data module.

This structure also allows us to better adapt to changing customer needs and, if necessary, to offer a combination of six or eight modules in the future.

Key objectives for inclusion

as already described in detail in the previous question, we would like to reach not only the car drivers with our idea, but also create an added value for the whole city. therefore, it was important to us to design the boxes in such a way that they also offer an advantage for passers-by and can be integrated well into the city life.

Innovative character

The advantages at a glance

  • we make electromobility much more accessible to people who do not have a private charging option
  • we reduce urban traffic (search for charging stations)
  • we relieve the existing charging infrastructure
  • charging becomes much more comfortable, no more "re-parking after charging" is necessary
  • We reduce the fear of not finding a suitable charging station when the battery is low.
